Tooling and Design Engineer

• Leads and coordinates the designs of electro-mechanical devices, components, assemblies, fixtures & tooling, etc. Should be fluent in solid modeling software, ideally Solidworks, and preference for knowledge with CAM software, ideally MasterCam for Solidworks, however, not necessarily required to do the CAM programming. • Reviews customer source control drawings, specification control drawings and other applicable specifications to determine requirements and/or feasibility of a component, device, assembly, etc. Will work with internal and external customers to implement specification, drawing and/or supplier revisions and updates, and create models and drawings for necessary testing, tolerance analysis, etc. • Will be immersed in molded part and mold tooling design utilizing low pressure liquid systems, thermoplastics, and elastomers. Molding techniques include injection, transfer, and casting processes. Preference will be given to candidates with mold tooling design and/or manufacturing experience. • Basic metal machining Understands capabilities of machining equipment currently in house as well as what we don’t have-Die Sink EDM, Wire EDM, engraving, etc. Follows industry trends, new technologies. • Prepares preliminary design proposal(s) and provides technical support and • Designs studies, tolerance stack-ups, layouts, drawings, calculations, weight estimates, supporting documentation, solids & surfaces, , are to be completed on 2-D/3-D CAD or other fitting computer applications, and complies with ANSI & ISO standards, as required. • Interacts with manufacturing personnel, and other necessary internal team members, to define and solve manufacturing/design issues and implement cost reduction ideas with regards to our • Continuously interacts with customers on engineering design and any questions/concerns they may have. • Interacts with vendors concerning necessary supplied or proposed • Coordinates with internal groups, including Supply Chain, Quality, Sales, Manufacturing, Financial Services, etc for necessary design requirements and manufacturing cycle. • Mentors less experienced designers and drafters and/or fellow Engineering team • Keeps supervisor advised of work status, work load, concerns, and progress as related to work/project assignments. May provide direction to project teams on necessary next steps and/or updates to project action items. SUMMARY: As a CAD Designer at AirCorps Aviation, you will play a crucial role in bringing historic WWII aircraft back to life and supporting the modern aerospace industry by modeling aircraft parts and assemblies. You’ll be working with original engineering drawings, transforming them into precise and detailed models that will guide our skilled fabrication team. Applicants must have a solid understanding of SolidWorks (or similar CAD modeling software), drafting techniques, 3D surfacing principles, and familiarity with engineering terminology. Strong math skills, mechanical aptitude and familiarity with CAD/CAM equipment and platforms is preferred. REQUIREMENTS: • Job knowledge through suitable education or prior work experience • Demonstrated ability to create precise 3D models and detailed assembly drawings • Be able to read, write and speak English clearly • Be able to interpret and work from original two-dimensional engineering drawings • Proficiency with modern CAD/CAM systems (preferably SolidWorks) • Knowledge of GD&T principles • Ability to modify parts and assemblies to rapidly adjust designs. • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. • Must be able to lift and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds at a time. • Experience with manufacturing processes and materials EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 5 years experience with Solidworks. Must be able to provide photos or drawings of past experiences and projects showing the skills that can be provided to AirCorps Aviation. Compensation: $24-$37/hr
