Locate and repair faults on all types of overhead and underground lines and equipment on regulators, transformers of all types, capacitors, boosters and similar devices. Install or remove poles, towers, arms, pins, insulators, dead ends and associated equipment in and on energized circuits. Measure voltage and current, phasing and paralleling circuits, power or lightning transformers and regulators. Install and test electronic devices on equipment such as capacitors and other associated equipment on electric distribution systems. Distribution Designer

Job Title: Distribution Designer Job Description We are seeking a Distribution Designer responsible for independently developing design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems primarily for electric utility customers. The role involves reviewing work provided by the client and assessing scope requirements. Based on available support, field work may be required, involving site visits to capture photos and measurements for design use. Designs will be completed using industry-specific software like Open Utilities, determining power requirements and equipment selection, including transformers and utility poles. Responsibilities • Develop design and construction work packages for electrical distribution systems. (examples of what the design can include: determine power requirements, define main distribution panels, subpanels, transformers, and branch circuits, equipment selection including transformers, circuits, power line, utility poles & the physical layout of the distribution and needed equipment) • Review client work and assess scope requirements. • Conduct field work, including site photography and measurements, as needed. • Utilize Open Utilities software to design power distribution systems. • Perform energy analysis to ensure material usage meets site requirements. • Build and manage Bill of Materials (BOM) using SAP/Material Tracking Software. • Assist with permits for utility lines crossing roads or private properties. • Submit electrical construction packages for client approval, revising as necessary. • Use additional software like Poleforman for structural analysis and pole integrity. • Communicate frequently with clients via email, phone, and Teams. • Ensure all designs comply with National Electric Safety Codes (NESC). • Collaborate with Quality Control approver for final design revisions. Essential Skills • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or an Associate's Degree in Design or a High School Diploma with 5 years of Design experience. • Experience with AutoCAD, Power Distribution Design, and Bill of Materials. • Knowledge of NESC codes and utility distribution design. • Comfortable working outside as needed. • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Solidworks, Catia, or Microstation. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience with electric utility or electric distribution design consulting firms. • Internships or co-op experience with major utility companies. • Experience in Quality Control, Quality Assurance, or employee training. • Experience in writing process standards. Work Environment The work will involve a mix of in-office, remote, and field settings. Required to work in the Cadillac office 2 days a week and able to work remote from home the other 3 days. Fielding in the Cadillac area is required as needed during the week during an in office or an at home day. The role is part of a growing Utility Energy Division, offering opportunities for career advancement and involvement in a range of utility projects. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position with paid time off provided while on contract. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $29.00/hr.
