Master Electrician

JOB SUMMARY Applies for permits under his/her certification. Assembles, installs, tests, and maintains electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures. Job Duties: Uses hand tools and testing instruments to diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components and isolate defects in wiring, switches, motors and other electrical equipment. Replaces faulty switches, sockets, and other elements of electrical systems. Dismantles electrical machinery and replaces defective electrical or mechanical parts such as gears, brushes, and armatures. Mounts motors, transformers and lighting fixtures into position and completes circuits according to diagram specifications. Inspects completed work for conformance with requirements of local building and safety codes. Estimates time and material costs on electrical projects. Requisitions new electrical supplies and equipment. Performs work under minimal supervision. Handles complex issues and problems, and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff. Possesses comprehensive knowledge of subject matter. Provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group. May act as a lead or first-level supervisor. Must be able to travel independently throughout the hospital; access patients/families including areas confined by space and/or equipment. • Speaking/Hearing: Ability to give and receive information through speaking and listening. • Must be able to handle tools, organize a number of daily tasks, and maintain safe work habits and complete written work performed, including preventive maintenance records. • Must be able to use a personal computer to track work orders, check status of HVAC and operate other maintenance software programs. ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL ABILITIES • Proficiency using modern office, computer and telephone equipment as used by Memorial Healthcare. • Fine hand/eye coordination required to perform small device repairs. • Ability to safely operate mechanical and electrical powered tools. • Ability to grasp small items and use hand tools simultaneously. • Must have a valid Michigan driver’s license.
