Mechanical Engineer Overview We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team as a designer for enclosed utility and recreational trailers, along with Division 5 metals. This position is ideal for candidates with strong proficiency in SolidWorks and/or Chief Architect. This role involves developing trailer designs, improving existing products, and ensuring manufacturability and compliance with industry standards. Key Responsibilities • Develop detailed 2D and 3D designs for enclosed utility trailers using SolidWorks and other CAD software. • Collaborate with engineering, production, and sales teams to design, layout, or detail components and systems. • Review and analyze project specifications, sketches, drawings, and related data to ensure design feasibility and compliance. • Create and maintain accurate bills of materials (BOMs) and documentation for new and existing designs. • Modify and revise designs to improve performance, reduce production costs, or address manufacturing challenges. • Provide technical support to production, purchasing, and sales teams. • Conduct design reviews with internal teams and customers to ensure requirements are met. • Ensure all designs comply with applicable safety regulations and transportation standards. • Support continuous improvement initiatives in design and manufacturing processes. Required Skills and Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. • Proficiency in SolidWorks (3D CAD modeling, assemblies, drawings, and design tables). • Experience with Chief Architect (preferred). • Working knowledge of other CAD software is a plus. • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including metal design, structural analysis, and vehicle/building layout. • Ability to perform weight distribution and axle load calculations for trailer designs. • Familiarity with fabrication and assembly processes in a manufacturing environment. • Experience developing and maintaining BOMs and technical documentation. • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills. • Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Preferred Experience • 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, ideally in the trailer, automotive, or heavy equipment industry. • Experience with electrical and hydraulic systems as related to trailer design. • Knowledge of industry regulations and standards for trailers and commercial vehicles. • Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) systems and change order processes. • Practical experience with design for manufacturability and continuous improvement.
