Senior Mechanical Project Manager

Equipment Mechanic I or II

This is skilled work in the mechanical repair, maintenance and reconditioning of assigned gasoline and/or diesel powered automotive, heavy truck, construction and/or maintenance equipment. Examples of work include the inspection, diagnosis, and installation of automotive, mechanical, hydraulic, air conditioning and electrical systems; maintenance of specialized police and fire vehicular apparatus; repair and replacement of fuel lines, carburation, and diesel injection components; and servicing and reconditioning of rear axles, brakes, rims, tires, multi-speed transmissions, and hydraulics. At the Equipment Mechanic II level, work is also highly skilled and at the journeyman level with intermittent responsibility for leading a small crew of workers in maintenance and repair. This position’s primary work assignment will be in the Sanitation Shop working on refuse equipment. This position is Emergency critical (meaning the position is mandatory working before, during, and after an emergency and/or disaster). This position will provide Eco pay of $3.00 per sweat hour. The assignment will be Monday – Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Salary: $23.02 - $36.50 Hourly** Close Date: Open Until Filled • *The starting salary and selection into an Equipment Mechanic position, at level I or level II, will depend upon qualifications and experience. • *Opportunity to promote to a Mechanic III once a combination of time served as a Mechanic II (6 months) and ASE Masters certification are attained. • *$1,000 per year tool allowance • *$10.00 per ASE per bi-weekly pay period (Maximum of 8 ASE’s) • *$20.00 per bi-weekly pay period for a CNG Inspector certificate To Qualify Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must: • Have a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency. • Possess and maintain a valid Driver License. • Possess and maintain a full set of automotive mechanic repair tools with roll away lockable tool chest at time of appointment to the position. • Acknowledge this position may require a State of Florida Class “A” Commercial Driver License with air brakes and selected applicants may be required to obtain the license through the City’s formal training program. • At the Mechanic II level, possess at the time of application, and maintain two ASE certifications (one in air conditioning). • Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, you must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster. Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants: • Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class “A” Commercial Driver License. • Have three (3) years verifiable experience as a general automotive mechanic with shop experience in the repair, maintenance and reconditioning of a variety of gasoline and/or diesel powered automotive, construction and/or maintenance equipment. • Have some knowledge of hydraulic, compressed air, vacuum, electronic controls, and their systems or components. • Are able to maintain engine cooling and air conditioning systems. • Are able to lift heavy automotive parts and to stoop, kneel, or lie on back while looking overhead for extended periods of time. • Have Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) experience. • Are able to follow oral and written instructions. • Are able to interpret and work with electrical schematics, sketches and maintenance diagrams. • At the Mechanic II level, have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a general automotive mechanic at the journeyman level. • Are able to maintain accurate and detailed records and input information into a computer terminal following written instructions.
