Senior Mechanic

Shift: A Shift, Monday – Saturday, must be able to work any shift Status: Union Hourly, Non-Exempt Reports to: Maintenance Manager Wage Range: N/A, Hourly Rate $34.00 Senior Mechanic : Safeguard manufacturing equipment to maintain operating efficiencies and ensure maximum production capability. Perform scheduled preventative maintenance. Repair, rebuild or replace malfunctioning equipment. Maintain a daily record of time and parts involved with assignments. Provide on the floor technical direction, instruction, training, and guidance to lower-level mechanics. Assist lower-level mechanics with repairs, projects, and work orders when necessary. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (other duties may be assigned as needed):: • Setup, repair and maintain Vertical Form Fill and Seal (VFFS) packaging equipment, Clamshell packaging lines, Ishida Scales, Multivac, Poseal and Packaging area bag and case coders. • Perform major Preventive Maintenance (PM) activities. • Perform major Preventive/Corrective Maintenance (PM/CM) activities on Turatti dryers. • Utilize excellent electrical skills and knowledge in electrical/electronics (PLCs, A/C and D/C motors and drives, control logic, schematics, and troubleshooting). • Execute processes to achieve machine uptime metrics. • Diagnose complex mechanical problems. • Improve efficiencies and initiate continuous improvement efforts. • Complete Work Orders and close them on MP2. • Ensure completion of basic maintenance projects. • Setup, Work with and maintain in good working condition the process water treatment system (SmartWash). Must be able maintain and calibrate PH and Free Chlorine sensors install and troubleshoot entire (SmartWash) system. • Set up and maintain Raytec optical sorters. • Follow all safety and GMP requirements and perform repairs as needed for safety issues and concerns. • Train machine operators in technical skills required to perform their duties. • Work with machine operators on a daily basis to reduce downtime and increase plant efficiency. • Work in cross-functional teams to maximize plant efficiencies. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:: • Provides on the floor technical direction, instruction, training, and guidance to lower-level mechanics. REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:: Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. • Ability to learn and understand and troubleshoot problems using electrical wiring diagrams (schematics). • Experience reading technical drawings and schematics. Strong reading and math skills. • Knowledge and practical application experience in electrical/electronics, PLCs, A/C and D/D motors, drives and controls. • Extensive experience with gear motors, pumps, & pneumatics. • Knowledge of CMMS (MP2). • Experience in metal fabrication and welding. • Comprehensive knowledge in hydraulics, pneumatics troubleshooting and repair. • Must have knowledge, skills and ability to successfully perform maintenance on electrical controls, adjustable motor drives, conveyors, automatic stretch wrapping equipment, and switchgears. • Ability to communicate efficiently both verbal and written and work in a flexible team environment. • Willingness to work shift work, variable start times, including overtime, and weekends (as scheduled). • Proven ability to drive safety rules and regulations. • Experience with industrial electronics and controls. • Basic understanding of machinery and electronics, start/stop procedures, purpose, function and recognition of machine failure. • Demonstrated ability to lift/move up to 50lbs. • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and continuously meet deadlines. • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with personnel at all levels of the organization. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:: • High School diploma or equivalent and 3-5 years of experience in packaging activities. • Requires 3-5 years of previous experience as an Electrician or Maintenance Mechanic (electrical, mechanical, and electronic equipment). • Experience and knowledge of Ishida scales, Bosch Baggers, Pacmac baggers • Experience and knowledge of Preventive Maintenance and Troubleshooting Procedures. • Computer skills with email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint preferred. LANGUAGE SKILLS:: • Literate in English; prefer biliterate in English and Spanish. SAFETY/GMP/Misc (if applicable): • Maintain and work in accord with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration norms. • Adhere to GMP’s in accordance with company policy. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:: • Basic math skills – addition, subtraction, multiplication, division. • Demonstrated ability to use a calculator. REASONING ABILITY:: • Demonstrated ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. • Resolve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. • Ability to work in a fast-paced-high pressure environment, collaborating with co-workers and management. • Sense of urgency, extreme accuracy, detail oriented, able to raise and effectively deal with issues at all levels of management, ability to work independently, ability to suggest procedures to improve processes. • Ability to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:: • Industrial Mechanic Certification a plus. • Industrial Technician Certification a plus. • Welding Certification a plus. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:: • Must be at least 18 years of age to work in food processing plant. • Prior experience in a fresh vegetable or food processing plant a plus. • Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays • Must be a current member of or willing to sign up with the Teamsters Local Union No. 890.: PHYSICAL DEMANDS:: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
