Job Description AECOM is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to be based in Sacramento, San Francisco or Oakland, CA. Our practice work includes a wide range of small to large projects in varied market sectors such Science & Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, Commercial, Aerospace, Higher Education, Industrial and Process, Transportation, Aviation Sports and Federal market sectors.  We look to combine beauty, sustainability, resiliency, and innovation in our projects and believe these values can be instilled in any project regardless of size or budget.  As a Senior HVAC Mechanical Engineer, you will lead the design and optimization of complex HVAC systems, leveraging your expertise to deliver exceptional results. You will serve as a technical leader within our organization, guiding project teams and driving innovation to exceed client expectations. Advanced Design and Analysis: • Lead the design and analysis of sophisticated HVAC systems incorporating energy efficiency strategies, load calculations, psychometrics, and system optimization techniques.  • Conduct detailed load calculations, equipment selection, and system layout design. Project Management / Client Engagement: • Manage multiple HVAC projects simultaneously, including scheduling, budget oversight, and coordination with Architects, other engineering disciplines and contractors.  • Cultivate strong client relationships through proactive communication and strategic consulting. Technical Expertise: • Provide technical guidance on complex HVAC system selection, sizing, and application, including advanced control systems, chilled water systems, and air handling units.  • Conduct in-depth analysis and evaluation of HVAC system performance to optimize energy efficiency and reliability. Project Leadership and Collaboration: • Lead multidisciplinary project teams, providing technical direction and mentorship to junior engineers. • Collaborate closely with architects, contractors, and stakeholders to integrate HVAC systems seamlessly into overall project design. • Lead multidisciplinary project teams, providing technical direction while mentoring junior engineers, providing technical support, and overseeing project execution. System Integration: • Ensure seamless integration of HVAC systems with other building systems like electrical, plumbing, and fire safety systems.  • Collaborate closely with architects, contractors, and stakeholders to integrate HVAC systems seamlessly into overall project design Regulatory Compliance: • Ensure all HVAC designs comply with relevant building codes, safety standards, and energy efficiency regulations. (CA Title 24, ASHRAE, HCAI, CDPH and LEED) Troubleshooting and Maintenance: • Diagnose and resolve complex HVAC system malfunctions, identify potential issues, and develop preventative maintenance plans.  • Experience in the Follow Market Sectors: • Healthcare • Federal • Data Centers /Mission Critical Qualifications Minimum Requirements: • BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering or similar field +8 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education   • California PE Preferred Qualifications: • A minimum of ten (10) years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education  • Experience with healthcare-related projects in California. • Strong mechanical code knowledge including International Fuel Gas Code, ASHRAE standards, NFPA and other relevant codes and standards  • Experience in designing complex hydronic systems, steam, VRF systems and sustainable designs. This includes cooling towers, water cooled chillers, air cooled chillers, hot water and steam boilers, geothermal systems, etc.  • Revit and CAD experience  • Ability to use load calculation software such as Trace700 and other energy modeling softwares such as eQuest, IES is a plus.  • Plumbing and Fire Protection system design experience  • Medical gas piping design experience is preferred  • Experience with sustainable design and certification or high performance buildings  • Excellent communication skills: articulate, assertive, and confident  • Creative thinker with effective teamwork skills  Additional Information • Sponsorship is not available for this opportunity Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. Position Summary We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to support the design and development of our industrial equipment hardware. This crucial role is essential to meet key commercial and product milestones, ensuring our technology effectively combats significant environmental challenges. You will execute on mechanical engineering activities from design to production and deployment, building scalable technologies to move the needle on environmental remediation.
