Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Summary: We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in designing, developing, and improving farm implements and agricultural equipment. The ideal candidate will have experience in product design, manufacturing processes, and agricultural machinery. This role plays a key part in turning innovative ideas into durable, high-performance equipment that supports modern farming operations. The ideal candidate will bring strong CAD skills, hands-on experience with hydraulics, power transmission, and knowledge of material flow through systems such as augers and conveyors. The ideal candidate for our Mechanical Engineer position should be able to perform the following tasks: • Work independently on engineering tasks, as well as, work collectively in a cross-functional team environment. • Must be able to perform general engineering calculations for analyzing mechanical structures and systems. • Must be able to perform general engineering calculations for analyzing fluid and thermal systems. • Must be a “hands-on” person able to physically assist in the shop where and when needed • Must be a problem solver, able to analyze a situation and find the best solutions. • Develop complete 3-D mechanical machine models and layouts for new designs, as well as, retro-fits of existing machines. • Interface with current component suppliers and source alternate suppliers where and when needed. • Interface with the manufacturing shops and shop personal and support the production manager. • Interface with the management, purchasing, service, parts and the sales teams to ensure all parties’ needs are met. • Be knowledgeable in basic hydraulic power system, (i.e. pumps, motors, cylinders and networking of these components). • Ensure that product specifications and all safety standards are met. • Generate/update all operational manuals and informational documentation for existing and new product lines. Key Responsibilities: • Design and develop mechanical systems and components for farm implements. • Create and revise detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD). • Perform engineering calculations to ensure structural integrity, functionality, and safety. • Collaborate with production and fabrication teams to optimize designs for manufacturability and cost-efficiency. • Test and validate prototypes in the shop and in the field; troubleshoot mechanical issues and recommend solutions. • Engineer systems involving hydraulics, powertrains (PTOs, gearboxes, shafts), and material flow mechanisms (e.g., augers, hoppers, chutes). • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to product performance and production processes. • Work with vendors and suppliers on component selection and sourcing. • Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards and safety regulations (e.g., ASABE, OSHA). • Prepare documentation, including BOMs, assembly instructions, and technical reports. Qualifications: • Must be fluent in all aspect of Microsoft Office Suite 365; (Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.). • Must be a skilled, efficient independent user of the latest version of Solid Works Premium (very important) and able to operate AutoCAD software. • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Design or related field. • 10+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in agricultural or heavy equipment manufacturing. • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks/AutoCAD preferred). • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, welding, fabrication, and materials. • Demonstrated experience with hydraulic systems, gearboxes, drive shafts, chain drives, and material handling systems (e.g., augers, conveyors, hoppers). • Hands-on experience with prototype development and field testing. • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and manuals. • Excellent problem-solving and project management skills. • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments. Preferred Qualifications: • Knowledge of agricultural equipment and farming practices. • Experience with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) tools and simulation software. • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or Six Sigma principles. Electro Mechanic

Location: Merced, CA Position: Electro Mechanic Shift: 2nd- 3:30pm - 12:00am Monday-Friday *overtime and Saturdays may be required. Training will be on 1st shift for approximately 1 month until moving to 2nd shift. Wage: $25.63-38.94 (BASED ON EXPERIENCE) + $0.40 shift premium for 2nd shift. Reporting to the facility and maintenance operation manager, you will be responsible for performing support functions for second shift maintenance operations, helping with troubleshooting equipment and process issues. Scheduling work orders and projects. What you will be doing: • Work with Process Development and Advance Manufacturing Engineering teams to improve manufacturing equipment and process. • Repairs electrical equipment/systems and control circuits; and replaces faulty electrical equipment as needed. This troubleshooting element is inclusive of Three Phase Motors and Programmable Logical Controls (PLC) applications • Must have a strong understanding of NFPA 70E standards and be capable of applying these standards in the work situation. • Installs electrical wiring and equipment; new electrical services; and replaces and repairs wiring as needed (including computer cable). • Responsible for work orders and work scheduling by utilizing our enterprise asset management system. • Performs minor and major repair of all buildings and equipment. Maintain and repair bundlers and machine parts and make dies. • Other technical responsibilities, assist in reducing downtime and improve quality. We’d love to hear from you if: • Minimum of 5 years manufacturing experience. • A minimum of AS Degree, or equivalent in Electronics, Electrical controls, or Industrial Engineering/Technology from accredited collage is a plus. • PLC ladder logic troubleshooting and strong problem-solving experience. • Must have excellent experience with AC/DC servo drives, stepper motors and VFD's. • Configuration and programming experience is a Plus+. • Hands-on with strong electrical and mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills and own your tools for the role. • Experience with Allen Bradley and Siemens highly desirable. • Excellent professional and interpersonal skills. Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering: Summer 2025 (Anticipated)

The Mechanical Engineering department in the School of Engineering anticipates hiring full and/or part-time lecturer positions to teach the following courses for Summer 2025: ENGR 057: Statistics and Dynamics ENGR 065: Circuit Theory ENGR 130: Thermodynamics ME 021: Engineering Computing ME 120: Component Design ME 137: Computer Aided Engineering Other courses as needed In addition to teaching the course(s), the instructor is responsible for creating a syllabus, holding weekly office hours (minimum 2 hours/week), and grading examinations and/or papers. The instructor may also be required to hold discussion sections or supervise a graduate student teaching assistant or reader. This is a limited-term appointment which falls under the purview of the agreement for the Lecturers Unit between University of California and the American Federation of Teachers.
