Mechanical Engineer II/III

Scientific Drilling is looking for a Mechanical Engineer II or III to join our Applied Technologies Center in Paso Robles, CA. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and design as well as experience using analytical abilities and tools to solve challenging engineering problems. Scientific Drilling is an independent directional drilling and wellbore navigation, surveying and logging service company serving customers in oilgas and sustainable geothermal worldwide. Our Mechanical Engineer will work in our Research and Development Department and is expected to perform the essential duties listed below. Candidates must have authorization to work in the United States. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Research, design, develop, and test mechanical components, assemblies and systems for use in down-hole drilling applications where tools must function to 175C+ temperatures and survive a high vibration environment • Utilize and apply mechanical engineering theory and application principles • Work in multi-disciplinary team environment with mechanical engineers, electronic engineers, manufacturing engineers and production staff, and field specialists • Develop and utilize apparatus and procedures to test mechanical components and systems • Examine schematics, technical drawings, and supporting documents to develop, compute and verify specifications, such as configuration of parts, dimensions and tolerances • Prepare engineering documents and specifications for component manufacturing and product assembly • Integrate product design and structure into Company's systems • Develop installation and maintenance requirements and procedures for mechanical components and assemblies • Address customer and field service reliability and safety issues with timely engineering analysis, root-cause determination, and new design or design improvement solutions • Adhere to and improve safety standards • May act as a functional lead or project lead on projects with other team members, managers, customers, vendors or other business partners • Travel domestically or internationally may be required, up to 10% • Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the needs of the business Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Proven skills in the use of practical application of mechanical engineering science and technology including applying principles (mathematics, statics, dynamics, heat transfer, etc.), techniques, procedures, and equipment to test and production • Proven skills with machines and tools, including design, use, repair and maintenance • Strong technical capabilities in design execution and product development • Development of technical documentation using a combination of CAD, MS Office, and other resources • Ability to work in fast paced and results driven environment • Capability and willingness to take ownership of understanding problems, developing solutions, and completing solution delivery to achieve business objectives • Very strong attention to detail and ability to multitask • Good organizational and communication skills • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results • Ability to interact/communicate effectively with managers and peers, both written and verbally • Ability to present oneself with professional appearance and behavior in accordance with ATC dress code and SDI Code of Conduct • Ability to meet all SDI/ATC safety requirements • Ability to read, communicate, and understand the English language • Adhere to established Company procedures and policies, work schedule, attendance standards and is punctual to work and meetings Education, Experience, Certification, and Training: • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering discipline • 2-10 years of experience as a mechanical engineer or equivalent • Strong proficiency with SolidWorks • Experience and proven skills using advanced computational software (FEA, CFD) • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint Preferred Qualifications: • Experience with ISO 9001 and ANSI Y14.5 • Experience working with electronic or electrical engineers in integrated project team Work Environment, Physical Job requirements and PPE: Equipment (machines, tools, devices) used in performing the essential job function include but not limited to computers and related equipment, calculators, copiers, fax machines, telephone and vehicles. Mechanical Designer

About the position Responsibilities • Independently applies functional specifications and uses engineering tools to design hardware for product changes and new development. • Leads and develops detailed design models, assemblies, drawings, and specifications for mechanical equipment, fixtures, and tools using CAD software. • Coordinates with engineers to design, lay out, and/or detail components and assemblies and to resolve design or other problems. • Discusses and develops design concepts with engineers to determine requirements of detailed working drawings. • Reviews and analyzes specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and procedures to be followed. • Modifies and revises designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems. • Maintains electronic drawing file system and revision history. • Performs other relevant drafting and engineering related duties. • Responsible for following protocol, archiving design source files, and managing projects. • Mentors and guides the work of other Designers. • Independently develops and creates PCB designs using PCB design software. Requirements • High School Diploma or GED equivalent; Associate's Degree preferred. • 5+ years direct, non-academic experience in Mechanical drafting and/or PCB layout. • 5+ years of work experience in computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment, preferably AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks. • Strong understanding of embedded systems hardware and software. • Experience with a variety of embedded development tools and technologies. Nice-to-haves • Experience with SolidWorks EPDM Product Data Management software. • Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning software - SAP. • Experience with Altium PCB design software.
