Mechanical Engineering Technician

Job Summary: Provides routine drafting support, prepares various drawings and schematics derived from a variety of specifications, layouts, blueprints and sketches. Utilizes established techniques, standards and tools like computer aided drafting software to prepare technical drawings. Coordinates and consults with engineers or designers to complete projects. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time. Develop detailed design drawings and specifications from markups and verbal instructions using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment. Work with and consult other workers to design, lay-out, or detail components and systems and to resolve design or other problems and to ensure projects and tasks are completed in a timely manner. Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed. Modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems. Check dimensions of materials to be used to ensure proper fit and function. Lay-out and draw schematic, orthographic, or angle views to depict functional relationships of components, assemblies, systems, and machines. Keeps abreast of current CAD Standards to maintain continuity during the drawing and bill of material development process. Maintains the library of production drawings and bills of material to ensure a central source of current reference information is available and accessible to all departments. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of manufacturing industry and vocational standards preferred. CAD and CAE software experience. Experience with problem solving techniques (5 why & root cause analysis). Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work directly with hourly production employees and leadership concerning manufacturing initiatives and progress updates. Strong work ethic, highly motivated, organized, and self-disciplined. Versatile, flexible, and willing to work with changing priorities. Self-motivated with the ability to stay on task. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute concurrent assignments in a high-pressure environment. Strong and consistent attention to detail. Creative and innovative team player. Ability to use sound judgment and make timely decisions. Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment. Solid PC skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, Teams, and Outlook. Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and layout and other written or verbal instructions. Capable of effectively presenting information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees in the organization. Education and/or Experience: Associate’s Degree of Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent education preferred. Typically requires 2-4 years of related experience.
