Mechanical Design Engineer

Purpose of Role We are seeking a skilled, motivated, and innovative Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in the automotive sector. This is a full-time, on-site position in which you will be an essential contributor to a growing team with shared responsibility for design, development, validation, verification, and release of innovative automotive performance products and engineering services. The successful candidate will lead the design and development of products that define the Weistec Engineering brand. The Mechanical Design Engineer initiates innovative solutions and contributes to new product development and continuous improvement activities. This role represents an exciting opportunity to combine your love of high-performance vehicles and knowledge of automotive systems with your technical skills in mechanical engineering. Key Responsibilities · Provide mechanical design and development services in support of projects, including part and assembly design from conceptual and detail design through release for manufacturing. • Utilize SolidWorks 3D modeling and drawing software to complete mechanical design for a wide range of components and assemblies composed of stainless steel, chromoly, aluminum and plastics that are manufactured via multiple processes including casting, molding, CNC machining, and CNC LASER cutting and forming of sheet metal. • Perform tolerance stack-ups and engineering calculations. • Manage data and data collaboration using SolidWorks Product Data Management (PDM). • Apply DFMA principles and act as a liaison with manufacturing and purchasing associates to optimize manufacturability, quality, reliability, performance, cost, and serviceability of designs. Determine requirements for tooling. • Conduct reverse engineering to identify opportunities for performance enhancement and cost reduction. • Utilize rapid prototyping techniques and equipment including 3D printers and digital scanners. • Assemble and evaluate proof of concept prototypes. • Execute component and system verification and validation test plans, including determining achievement of defined pass/fail criteria. • Assign part numbers and create, release, and maintain BOM’s. • Update project timelines, assuring compliance with project deliverables. • Support continuous improvement of critical engineering processes including 3D modeling and drawing best practices, design and data control, verification and validation testing, change order, and design release. · Maintain consistent and documented compliance with all quality, best practice, and relevant Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) requirements. · Network with Weistec Engineering colleagues and industry partners, suppliers, customers, and authorities to identify new technical developments and trends, incorporating these to spur innovation and advancement. Educational and Professional Qualifications Essential • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline • 3+ years designing and developing mechanical products and systems in a manufacturing environment • 5+ years using SolidWorks 3D modeling, drawing, PDM, and FEA software • Understanding of multiple disciplines including electrical and electronic engineering • Familiarity with critical engineering processes including GD&T, DFMA, FMEA, PFMEA, root cause analysis, and disciplined problem solving • Self-motivated, organized, and professional approach applying strong interpersonal skills in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment • Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams • Capability to understand and manage complex systems • Ability to manage multiple assignments and prioritize activities • Knowledgeable in usage of computer applications such as Microsoft Office Professional and other productivity/documentation tools Desirable • Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline • Experience with performance tuning parts with a demonstrated passion for automotive industry and familiarity with vehicle systems • Exposure to PLM systems and design documentation workflows • Knowledge of battery system design, applications, and controls. What You Will Do On any given day, as a Mechanical Engineer, you might: • Responsible for planning, scheduling, conducting, and coordinating the technical and management aspects of Sustaining Engineering projects. • Communicate timely, clearly, and concisely with management, customers, partners, and cast members about work status and impact on Resort availability through various means, including email, text, and Slack. • Perform ride element performance analysis: finite element analysis, structural, dynamic, kinematic, hydraulic, and pneumatic analysis and calculations, as appropriate, for any Attraction changes supporting compliance with California ride law requirements. • Assists in resolving technical conflicts encountered in design/drawing packages with vendors and shops to ensure conformance with design documentation. • Make engineering recommendations, with proposed actions and suggested priorities, for resolving attraction operational and mechanical problems. • Produce timely creation/review of engineering design, change, repair, and disposition documents. • Accountable for the successful completion of Sustaining Engineering projects.
