Maintenance Technician (Mechanical)

Job Description • Plan, coordinate, document, and oversee all maintenance activities for production equipment, support systems, and facility infrastructure. • Tool and Die repair, maintenance and troubleshooting as needed. • Implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and extend equipment life. • Ensure rapid response and resolution to unplanned equipment breakdowns to support production targets. • Assists and provides guidance to production team members, train new employees on daily maintenance items. • Aide planner with scheduling and workflow when affected by maintenance operation. • Monitor performance and condition of CNC machines, pumps, presses, and other manufacturing equipment. • Maintain compressor, lighting, and other facility systems critical to plant operations. • Coordinate maintenance support during product changeovers, shutdowns, and plant upgrades. • Develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and maintenance protocols. • Coordinate and lead the installation of new manufacturing equipment, workstations, and tooling fixtures. • Ensure new installations are compliant with safety standards, properly integrated into existing systems, and tested before production use. • Work with engineering and production teams to plan layouts and utility needs for new machinery and equipment. Experience Required • Fluent in English. • Ability to effectively work individually in a team environment. • Responsible with excellent attendance (must set an example). Physical Requirements: • Able to lift up to 70-lbs. • Operate manual mills, lathes, drill presses and other machine equipment for fixture and tooling repair. • Troubleshoot shop equipment issues. • Experience with mechanical assemblies and use of various hand tools and air tools. • Competent with basic shop mathematics. • Be able to use shop measuring and inspection tools. • Great collaborator with a growth mindset, eager to continuously improve themselves and those around them. • Shows record of reliability and trustworthiness. Position Description Summary The Mechanical Inspector will support LAWA’s Quality Assurance & Construction Inspection Division across multiple projects within LAWA’s Capital Improvement Program. Essential Job Duties • Inspects the construction of a wide variety of airport improvements and utilities projects to ensure conformance to plans, specifications, contracts, permits, environmental documents, agreements for work, and may provide construction inspection support. • Conduct comprehensive daily inspections of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems across building and terminal construction projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and project specifications, review and interpret construction documents including blueprints and shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders. • Demonstrates strong proficiency in preparing comprehensive daily inspection reports that clearly document the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW of all observed construction activities, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and accountability in tracking progress and identifying issues, deficiencies, or safety concerns in a timely manner. Verify contractor compliance with local and national electrical codes (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70, 70E, 72), mechanical and plumbing codes, and LAWA-specific standards. • Track and document time-and-material work, field changes, and job quantities Assist in validating contractor progress payment requests based on an approved schedule of values. • Support special inspections and testing activities, coordinating with engineers, contractors, and third-party agencies as needed. • Perform inspections of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) installations including, but not limited to: • Domestic Water and Sewage Systems • Venting, fire sprinklers, and gas piping • HVAC systems (air handlers, chillers, boilers, ductwork) • Smoke Control Systems • Mechanical ventilation and exhaust • Fire and life safety integration (e.g. smoke dampers) Mechanical and plumbing shutdowns, lockout / tagout procedures • Commissioning and balancing reports Underground utilities and duct banks • High-voltage switchgear and electrical panels Conduit racks, conductors, and grounding systems Interior and exterior lighting systems • Fire life safety systems including smoke/heat detectors and FM-200 suppression systems • Electrical shutdowns, lockout/tagout procedures, and breaker coordination • Inspect IT infrastructure installations such as: • Low-voltage systems (voice/data, security, access control) • Door card readers, security cameras, and public address (P.A.) systems • Communication cabling and equipment rooms Professional Experience Level/Minimum Qualifications: • Mechanical inspection staff shall have 3 years or more experience performing mechanical inspections for Building Construction. • Mechanical inspection staff possess a thorough knowledge of the materials and methods used in the installation of plumbing, heating, air conditioning and refrigeration installations. • Current ICC Certification as a Commercial Mechanical • Proof of Cal-OSHA 30 hr. training within the last 4 years • Fall protection and harness training. • Confined Space Entry Training • Knowledge of Project Management Information Software used for inspection/document control (i.e., Microsoft Office, Outlook, Xcel, Word, PM Web, Adobe Pro, Bluebeam, etc.). • Computer proficiency to review and utilize electronic equipment for contract documents efficiently, including change orders, submittals, RFIs, and other inspection documents, with minimal supervision. Preferred Qualifications and Experience: • Additional Current ICC certifications as Electrical and Plumbing Inspector • NFPA 70E standards training within the last 3 years is preferred. • Training & knowledge of NFPA -70, 70E, & 72 is preferred. • Experience at the journey-level as an electrician, with a focus on the installation and repair of electrical systems in public works, institutional, commercial, or industrial settings. • Plumbing experience (journeyman/master level) with progression into inspection. • Experience inspecting mechanical systems of large-scale commercial, industrial or public buildings. • Experience overseeing and ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations on significant construction projects. • Involvement in complex projects that require coordination with multiple stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, and city officials. • Expertise in identifying and addressing deficiencies, ensuring that all aspects of construction meet the required standards. • Must be open to learning the prescriptive items required by the agency. • A strong understanding of diverse code requirements. • Excellent communication and time management skills. Required Education/Training: • High school diploma (or equivalent) Element-Specific Requirements: • May assume other duties as required/needed. • May be required to work various shifts, including day, swing, and night. • Shall be open to work modified schedules, including nights and weekends, as dictated by the contractors' work activities and accelerated project schedules. • Availability to work overtime as required to meet project deadlines and ensure timely completion of tasks is preferred. As a Power Generation and Energy Storage engineer, you will be responsible for the complete life cycle of mechanical components from concept definition, interfaces, conceptual design, detailed design, component development, assembly, verification, and operation on the moon. As a part of the Lunar Power Generation and Energy Storage group, you may work on multiple programs at different stages of maturity including Fuel Cell Systems, Solar Arrays, and Batteries. Develop new design capabilities within the team to support these efforts. • Provide manufacturing and production support including optimizing designs for manufacturability • Work with suppliers or Blue Origin groups to identify and procure components. Required Qualifications • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering, or related technical subject areas • 5+ years of relevant experience in aerospace or automotive industry • Experience with Creo and Windchill PLM • Experience with GD&T (ASME Y14.5), drawing generation, and Model-Based Definition • Experience designing aerospace primary and/or secondary structure • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) methodologies for aerospace vehicles • Familiarity with aerospace materials and treatments • Experience creating fabrication and installation drawings with Creo • Familiarity with the principles, concepts, and methods of systems engineering such as concept development, requirement definition, design solution definition, design reviews, implementation, integration, verification and validation, qualification, commissioning, and operations • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment while regularly providing imaginative and detailed technical solutions to complex problems. • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills.
