Mechanical Design and Certification Project Engineer

What you'll do Manage engineering projects to deliver and maintain Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) for Viasat’s Commercial Aviation In-Flight Connectivity (IFC) products. The day-to-day Ensure customer technical requirements are met for the integration of satellite communication equipment onto aircraft platforms, including modems, antennas, power supplies, radomes, and passenger user interface software. You will: • Lead and influence internal engineering teams, external suppliers, and certification regulatory authorities • Enable successful certification and installation of the Viasat In-Flight Connectivity System • Developing structural installations and piece part designs for metallic and composite components • Maintaining mechanical design documentation, and addressing in-service and manufacturing deviations • Direct interaction with civil aviation certification authorities, Viasat engineering and program teams, external engineering subcontractors, and a world-wide airline customer base • Apply mechanical engineering and systems engineering skills within a multi-function engineering team and communicate effectively with customers, partners, and Viasat leadership, while being available for on-call rotation and support critical issues What you'll need • 5+ years' experience in mechanical engineering/design, aviation and/or space industries • 2+ years' experience in project or system engineering • Demonstrated experience with commercial aviation hardware and software • Working experience with SolidWorks, or other similar Computer Aided Design (CAD) packages • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) methods and software • Experience with FAA/EASA STC projects as well as FAA ACO, ODA, DER, DAR processes and procedures • Proven experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and ASME drawing practices • Experience with system requirements management and communication to multiple parties • Familiarity with structural analysis of metallic and/or composite structures • Available to participate in on-call rotation and support on-cell issues • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering • US Citizenship required • Ability to travel up to 25% What will help you on the job • Validated mechanical engineering/design experience • Aviation and/or space industries • Proven ability to coordinate all engineering fields in a project such as mechanical, electrical, software, etc. • High level of demonstrated expertise with aviation structural installation design • Experience with solid and surface modeling in Solidworks. • Experience with aircraft systems, avionics, and wiring • Experience with system integration and test • High level of demonstrated expertise with technical writing of engineering documentation • Experience with engineering drawing practices in aerospace applications • Highly familiar with aircraft manuals such as SRM, AMM, WDM, IPC etc.. • Familiarity with manufacturing techniques of metallic and/or composite structures • Familiarity with Material Review Board (MRB) practices • Familiarity with environmental test methods listed in RTCA DO-160 and MIL-STD-810 • Familiarity with ARINC 429/600/791 • Working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations 14CFR Parts 23 and/or 25, or other aircraft certification experience • Ability to mentor and provide guidance to more junior team members on above topics • Prefer for this person to sit in our Carlsbad, CA office, but open to remote work locations for the right candidate. Salary range $127,000.00 - $201,000.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $158,000.00- $237,000.00/ annually At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. Mechanical Designer III

Fluidra is looking for a Mechanical Designer III to join our team in Carlsbad, CA. WHAT YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE This position will work within the Engineering Department to create and modify drawings and is primarily responsible for the mechanical design of products within the Product Development team. Most of the project work will be focused on updating and modifying existing products with some additional work on new products. Additionally, you will: • Creation of 2D drawings from 3D models or parts in SolidWorks using common drafting standards. • Update and modify 2D drawings based on changes required by engineering team. • Properly maintain drawing system integrity in product data management system. • Work well independently to complete groups of drawing projects with good documentation and organization. • Coordinate/collaborate with engineers to create new and/or modify existing technical drawings that communicate engineering ideas, designs, and information in support of engineering functions. • Ability to work effectively independently or in a team environment with moderate to complexity projects. • Strong communication skills – both verbal and written. • Must be able to generate complex surfaces, detail and assembly drawings in Solidworks. • Verify information provided is accurately represented and all industry standard drafting standards are met. • Candidate may have to supervise other drafters and engineers on large drawing projects to ensure consistency and cohesiveness throughout all engineering packages. • Must be a creative problem solver able to demonstrate a history of personal initiative, and have the ability to work in early stage cross-functional teams. • The successful candidate for this position must have a high degree of personal motivation, initiative, intellectual curiosity, and solid communication skills. • Should be detail oriented and well organized. Must be comfortable working in a fast growth environment. • Capable of making and checking detail and layout drawings. Principal Mechanical Engineer

Position Overview: The Principal Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for design, development, and optimization of complex parts and assemblies. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for leading the mechanical engineering efforts across multiple projects from initial concept, through all phases to final product commercialization. This role requires a deep understanding of mechanical design, materials, engineering principles, and regulatory standards, as well as experience in the development of products within the medical device industry. Work to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality in a production environment. Responsibilities include: DFM/FEA analysis, Tolerance stack up for assemblies using statistical techniques, evaluating process, testing, updating mechanical systems, updating component/assembly drawings and manufacturing procedures. Excellent communication skills are essential to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to design/develop and transfer systems from R&D to Manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have a background in mechanical design, analysis, and manufacturing processes. Responsibilities: R&D Engineering: Concept, design, and development of electro-mechanical systems. Perform comprehensive FEA analysis, DFM, DFA for assemblies, components, sub-systems to ensure manufacturability and reliability. Analysis: Perform engineering calculations such as tolerance stack analysis using statistical methods to ensure the integrity and performance of mechanical designs for high volume manufacturing processes. Fixturing and Tooling: Design and develop manufacturing processes, tooling equipment, and conduct testing to validate design concepts and verify performance requirements. Manufacturing Support: Collaborate with manufacturing teams to optimize designs for manufacturability and provide technical support during production. Documentation: Prepare technical documentation, including IQ/OQ/PQ, engineering drawings, specifications, and Manufacturing Procedures. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for improvement in existing designs and processes to enhance product performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Analyze production workflows and identify areas for improvement. Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and implement corrective actions. Conduct time and motion studies to improve efficiency. Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with other engineering disciplines, such as electrical and software engineering, as well as with product management and quality assurance teams, to meet project goals and objectives. Qualifications: Education: • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or similar disciplines with eight or more years of relevant experience. A master’s degree can be substituted for relevant experience. Required Experience: • 8+ years of experience in mechanical design and development within the medical device industry, with a proven track record of bringing products to market. • Experience in leading mechanical design efforts for Class I, II, or III medical devices. • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and other engineering tools such as MiniTab, MATLAB, MS Excel. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Hands-on experience in laboratory technical work, preferably medical device systems. • Experience in documenting technical work and results, writing lab reports, statistical analysis, and presentation of data. • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills are required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Proficiency with SolidWorks 2020 and above. • Biomedical product, medical device development experience preferred. • Electromechanical design, GD&T, tolerance analysis. • Development of laser/optic energy delivery devices, and laser systems is an advantage. • Experience with Q-switched, fiber optic or other high-energy lasers and related optical and optomechanical hardware is an advantage. • Experience with Class 3B & Class 4 lasers and related optics for energy delivery and related single-use devices is an advantage. • Understanding of Design Controls according to ISO 13485 or 21 CFR 820.
