Skilled Maintenance Worker

DESCRIPTION Maintains irrigation systems for landscaped medians, gardens, grounds and other horticultural features within the guidelines of standard operating procedures, County and department policies and procedures, and safety standards. Performs backflow inspections in parks and recreation facilities and county wide medians. Reports to the Parks Maintenance Superintendent or other designated person. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Plans and installs new irrigation systems, including valves, lateral lines, heads, etc. Maintains irrigation systems and backflows within parks and county wide medians. Inspects irrigation systems and backflows, and reports conditions and needed repairs. Performs backflow inspections on all systems annually. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: High School Diploma or GED Experience: Two (2) years of experience with installing and maintaining irrigation systems and backflow preventers Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Considerable knowledge of plants, shrubs, trees, and electronic sprinkler system. Familiarity with County and department policies and procedures. Proficiency in operating tractors, trucks and other motor equipment, and interacting with the public. Good communication skills, both oral and written. Demonstrated ability to work independently. Certification: Must have the ability to obtain backflow inspector certification within 6 months of hire. Licensing: Possession of a valid driver's license with good driving history. If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment. CDL Class B preferred but not required. OTHER Position requires staff call up in an emergency situation. Travel from the office to other locations is required of this position. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Depending upon area of assignment: Requires intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, walking, lifting of light and heavy objects, and using tools and equipment that require a high degree of manual dexterity. Work is performed outdoors with exposure to noise, chemicals, inclement weather, dirt, dust, and machinery with moving parts requiring use of protective devices. Landfill Equipment Operator I

DESCRIPTION This is an entry-level position in its classification. Operates heavy equipment and off-road complex specialty machines such as yard tractors, farm tractors, bulldozers, compactors, excavators or wheel loaders, waste compactors & dozers at a recycling center, landfill or transfer station for the purpose of transferring, spreading, covering, loading and/or compacting waste or soil in an efficient, safe and effective manner. Work is performed under regular supervision and is carried out in accordance with standardized equipment operation practice and general work instruction. Direction is given through oral and written communications. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Safely and efficiently performs heavy equipment/ specialized machine operation in order to maintain and construct a landfill by using equipment to push trash; maintaining the appropriate grade and compaction levels; hauling dirt; loading truck with excavator; driving truck to work site; combining trash and dirt in order to grade. Cleans and inspects all types of heavy equipment/machine in an effort to increase life expectancy and improve reliability. Continuously monitor the condition of the equipment to ensure it is operationally ready at all times to minimize down time; clean tracks or wheels on equipment, as needed. Inspects equipment/machine for proper operating condition and loose or worn parts, maintain basic fluid levels on assigned equipment. Perform and document minor service on equipment, referring more complicated mechanical issues to Maintenance Shop for repair. Reports defects or damage to equipment to the appropriate authority Drives large tractor-trailer rigs and low-boys to transport solid waste between transfer stations and the landfill or to move construction equipment to and from job sites; positions vehicle to allow for the most efficient and effective loading or unloading of equipment and materials; and secures all doors, gates, and fasteners to prevent spillage or loss of load Utilizes safety equipment and wears protective gear: monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; monitors traffic conditions surrounding trucks and equipment to identify obstructions, pedestrians, or unsafe traffic conditions; flags and directs traffic and places markers, signs and cones around project and work site to ensure safety of crew and the traveling public; and reports any incidents, accidents, problems, or unusual situations. Communicates with supervisor, coworkers, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems: communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information and assistance; takes and relays messages or directs calls to appropriate personnel; and returns as necessary. Building Inspector Series I-V

DESCRIPTION Augusta, Georgia is currently recruiting for Building Inspectors in the following three areas: Electrical Building Plumbing/Mechanical Building Inspectors are responsible for conducting on-site inspections of commercial and residential buildings to ensure work meets code requirements within the guidelines of International and National Codes and relevant state and Augusta Richmond County codes. Reports to the Building Official or other designated person and works with contractors, engineers, fire and health department officials, homeowners, and the pubic to ensure code compliance. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Conducts on-site inspections of commercial and residential buildings to ensure work meets code requirements within the guidelines of International and National Codes and relevant state and Augusta Richmond County codes: reviews and verifies permit and licensing requirements; inspects installations and construction activities; reviews approved building plans; and ensure actual construction conforms to approved plans. Notifies contractors, engineers, architects, subcontractors, and property owners of code violations and discuss remedies for deficiencies. Identify code violations, issues warnings and correction notices and stop work orders, to contractors, architects, engineers, and/or property owners regarding inspection findings; re-inspect after completion of required corrections/modifications; issues citations for violations; and prepares and initiates legal proceedings against violators. Represents department in Municipal Court as required. Approves construction activities and final products which meet applicable code requirements: and maintains inspection records and related documentation in Departmental systems. Review plans for construction, modifications and renovations, evaluates plans for compliance with local state and federal building codes and standards; and makes recommendations regarding changes to correct deficiencies and advises contractors/owners of changes required for code compliance, proper work technique, and safety. Communicates with building owners, contractors, developers, and the general public regarding codes, inspection procedures, and other issues pertaining to code compliance programs and services: responds to questions, complaints and/or requests for information; and explains and interprets division policies and procedures, and Consolidated Government ordinances and codes. Performs a variety of administrative duties in support of inspection work: makes and returns phone calls; prioritizes and schedules assigned inspections; completes daily log sheet; prepares inspection files, certification files, building permits, letters, etc.; enters information collected into database; and maintains all related records and files.
