Mechanical Engineer

Job Description: As a key member of the Mechanical Engineering team, the Mechanical Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager and is responsible for analyzing, designing, maintaining, improving, and releasing world class machinery. The engineer will be responsible for coordinating with other engineers, customers, and project managers to ensure accurate equipment releases. The position will be based at our headquarters in Greenville, South Carolina. Primary Responsibilities: • Perform the design and/or evaluation of advanced mechanical and electro-mechanical systems​ • Conduct engineering studies and partner with operations, services, and customers to: diagnose problems, apply root cause analysis, determine cost-effectiveness, efficiency and reliability​ • Partner with manufacturing and suppliers to develop solutions for meeting cost targets for projects​ • Identify opportunities and use market/customer observations/feedback to drive consistency across product line design activities and processes to improve efficiency, quality & cost​ • Provide technical support for less experienced engineering team members​ • Apply ITW 80/20 business processes, draw conclusions using critical information from available data, and lead projects where applicable (or equivalent for external candidate)​ • Demonstrate proficiency in key software (design creation/publishing/storage) • Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Job Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 3 years of related experience or a minimum of 5 years of related experience if no engineering degree • Proficient in producing mechanical designs utilizing 3D CAD software. • Drives collaborative efforts and delivers results within a team environment. • Proficient in producing and maintaining bill of materials • Experienced in designing advanced parts and assemblies and can drive continuous improvement efforts • Ability to complete advanced design projects with minimal supervision. • Collaborative mindset and able to interact effectively with engineering and manufacturing personnel, and actively participates and drives effective teams. • Demonstrated ability to provide engineering support in design activities and ensure that products meet organization and industry standards • Masters own area and has a basic knowledge of products supported and functional processes • Analytical, detailed oriented with ability to manage time and tasks appropriately • Team player with positive attitude who is willing and able to learn from and collaborate with others while teaching and mentoring less experienced team-members. Preferred Qualifications: • Demonstrated ability to design and/or evaluate mechanical and/or electrical systems and proficient with the use of design tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.)​ • Consistent track record of independently releasing designs with high quality, acknowledging errors, and addressing them with a sense of urgency ​ • Ability to effectively interface directly with Suppliers, Vendors, Customers, teammates, and members of adjacent teams​ • Demonstrated ability to conduct engineering studies in order to diagnose issues, determine root cause, and recommend/implement solutions in order to drive technical improvements, cost-effectiveness, efficiency gains, and product reliability​ • Contributor in ITW Toolbox initiatives to influence process and product improvements ITW is an equal opportunity employer.
