Position Summary: Work involves the application of mechanical skills to the maintenance and fabrication of instructional, experimental, research, and operational apparatus and equipment used in laboratories, classrooms, maintenance shops and farming. Work emphasis is on the fabrication or apparatus for lab and research purposes and the maintenance of such equipment. Employees will exercise some discretion and judgement in determining techniques and methods for completion of the work and to develop a basic understanding of the subject field to which assigned. Assignments are received from instructional or research personnel either by sketches, blueprints and diagrams or orally. Unusual or special assignments are reviewed primarily by observation of results obtained. This position will travel to different campus buildings to repair equipment and pick up materials as needed. Essential Functions The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for creating mechanical and structural designs that enable fabricators to construct industrial and commercial projects.
