Mechanical Process Engineer

As part of our Ordnance Systems team in Radford, VA, you will be working alongside some of the industry's top talent on the forefront of energetics technology. As a member of the production team, the Process Engineer will be responsible for supporting our manufacturing operations at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant in southwestern Virginia. The Process Engineer will be responsible for evaluating current processes and configuring manufacturing systems to reduce cost, improve sustainability, and develop best practices within the production process. In this role, you will provide real-time floor support, guidance, and direction to operations personnel. As a Process Engineer, you will work closely with other Process Engineers on key projects and initiatives. You will spend more than half your day on the production line, troubleshooting equipment and leading root cause investigations. As the subject matter expert on the production line, you will occasionally get after-hour calls and have to come into the plant to solve issues. At BAE Systems, we believe in work-life balance, and this position works a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off. Manufacturing support will include: • Provide process engineering support to the Manufacturing Department • Assist in developing new and redline existing Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams • Provide technical support to meet schedules in accordance with quality standards, safety requirements, and regulatory standards • Facilitate and/or guide improvement projects, maintenance projects, and aid in process troubleshooting • Provide technical assistance and troubleshooting with process control systems • Provide on call technical assistance • Author, maintain and update necessary procedures & assist with training when applicable • Assist in developing cost estimates for new/existing products and projects • Collaborate and function in a multidiscipline team-based environment • Assist in developing Process Flow Diagrams and Heat & Material Balances • Interact with customers and suppliers • Lead/support Process Hazard Analysis for new and existing processes • Support Environmental Risk Management Plan and the Process Safety Management program • Interact and aid modernization projects • Develop new and redline existing Process Narratives • Develop and implement quality, safety, environmental, and process improvements Required Education, Experience, & Skills • Bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering discipline and 4 years working as a process engineer or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Root cause investigation experience. • Able to be in an on-call rotation and come in on off-shifts a few times a month. • Exhibit sound judgment, initiative, and self-motivation and be able to complete tasks with minimal guidance. • Solid communication, teamwork and integration know-how will be required to work effectively across functions at multiple levels. • Manage time effectively while dealing with a variety of issues in a dynamic environment. • May consider candidates who do not meet all the above requirements for a more junior role or additional experience for a more senior role. Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills • 5+ years direct manufacturing experience working in the chemical or other similar industry. • Experience with energetics manufacturing. #LI-Onsite #LI-JR1 Pay Information Full-Time Salary Range: $86460 - $146982 Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience. The main goal is to optimize energy utilization, increase energy efficiency, and lower energy costs. Formal education in Instrumentation, Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Experience with control strategies for a campus/plant of significant scale (500,000 points monitored or greater).
