Clow Valve - Product Design Engineer I

Company Description Today, Clow Valve Company operates at two locations: Oskaloosa, Iowa, and Riverside, Calif. The Oskaloosa plants include iron and brass foundries, a machine shop, assembly, finished goods warehousing, shipping and administrative offices. The Riverside location includes a sales office and distribution center. We are proud to continue our history of offering manufactured products that comply with "Made in the USA" requirements. Job Description Purpose: The Product Design Engineer 1 is the source of innovation for developing profitable products, processes, and creative solutions by listening to and meeting the needs of both the internal and external customers. Key Performance Indicators: 1. Customer Experience: Score 4.1/5 on Customer product innovation impact survey 2. Sustainability: a. Identify and eliminate 2 product-based quality issues per year. b. Create or improve 1 significant product per year. Core Functions: • Product Excellence (40%): Work with business partners, internal and external customers to evaluate and meet industry and manufacturing needs in relation to new or improved product design. Actively search for improvements to products, manufacturing techniques, services, and departmental processes/procedures and complete feasibility/cost reduction studies for product improvements. Create and maintain Clow specific product documentation and visual based service support instructions to ensure production of high-quality water products. • Project Management (25%): Scope, plan, and set milestones to maintain momentum and achieve completion of projects, by collaborating with business partners and internal/external customers. Oversee model and print creation of prototype production as well as temporary and semi-permanent tooling design to ensure quality integrity and customer satisfaction. • Customer Relations (25%): Invite collaboration with business partners and internal/external customers by building and strengthening relationships, in the interest of continuous improvement, product design, and process improvement. Maintain an open line of communication with the Manufacturing Engineer, Production and Sales to enhance manufacturing productivity and customer satisfaction. • Professional improvement (10%): Continuous learning and professional development improves and encourages innovation, communication, and leadership. Research industry standards, new product opportunities and actively participate in new product/services brainstorming events. Seek out opportunities for professional development by way of educational courses, training sessions, or collaboration with business partners. Qualifications Technical Skills: Knowledge of SolidWorks and MS office program packages. Experience using precision measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers, CMM, and 3D scanning equipment desired. Working knowledge of hydraulics and electric controls. Quality Management minimum competence guidelines in Quality procedure; Competence, Awareness, and Training. Education & Experience: Required: -Associate's degree in engineering with a minimum of 6 years' experience in a manufacturing environment. Preferred: -Bachelor's in engineering, engineering technology or industrial tech with 0-3 years of experience. The Musco Product Development Engineering Team is currently seeking a Electronics Components Engineer to work from our Oskaloosa office. This position will specify and evaluate electronic components for a wide variety of lighting products. What you will do as a Electronics Components Engineer: • Provide technical expertise, selection and evaluation of active and passive electronic components used in lighting products. • Assist with ensuring selected components and suppliers meet quality and reliability standards. • Work with compliance to ensure appropriate ratings and certifications are met in intended applications. • Develop test and verification procedures. • Evaluate alternate components as needed. • Coordinate component engineering efforts across all product lines. • Interface with other departments like R&D, purchasing, manufacturing, quality, warranty, etc. • Perform other related duties as assigned. What you need to be successful: • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Material Science, or equivalent. • Five or more years’ experience in electronics product development. • Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, concepts, practices, and theories. • Ability to use common test and measurement equipment: oscilloscopes, multi-meters, etc. • Knowledge of pertinent UL, CSA, NEC standards. • PC proficiency in Microsoft Office. • Attention to accuracy and detail. • Good interpersonal skills. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Self-motivated. • Willingness to learn. • Team player. • Methodical approach to problem solving. • Flexibility to deal with priority changes and tight deadlines.
