About the Role: We are actively seeking a full-time Mechanical Engineer with deep experience in electrical switchboard and switchgear manufacturing. This in-house role is ideal for an engineer who thrives on technical challenges and creative problem-solving. You will be responsible for designing mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks, supporting the fabrication of custom-built panel boards, and reverse-engineering existing systems to generate new, improved solutions. This is a 1099 contract position offering full-time hours and a competitive hourly rate, with the opportunity to work closely with a collaborative, multidisciplinary team on real-world manufacturing challenges. Responsibilities: • CAD Design & Modeling: Use SolidWorks to develop accurate and detailed mechanical designs and component models for electrical switchboards, enclosures, mounting systems, and related hardware. • Reverse Engineering: Analyze existing products, drawings, and physical samples to create updated or enhanced versions for current production needs. Capture design intent, improve manufacturability, and document thoroughly. • Blueprints & Technical Documentation: Create and revise technical drawings, bills of materials, and production-ready documentation for custom builds. • Collaboration Across Teams: Work directly with electrical engineers, technicians, and manufacturing staff to bring mechanical designs into production. Offer technical input to ensure integration and functionality of final assemblies. • Product Improvement & Innovation: Contribute new design concepts to improve product functionality, reduce cost, and optimize assembly methods in line with best practices and industry standards. • Standards & Compliance: Ensure mechanical designs align with relevant standards such as NEMA 1 and NEMA 3R, and support UL 891 panelboard specifications from a mechanical perspective. Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience in a related field. • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in mechanical design for electrical switchboard manufacturing, related industrial equipment, or electrical systems design. • Expert-level proficiency with SolidWorks CAD software, including part modeling, assemblies, and drawing creation. • Demonstrated experience in reverse engineering components, interpreting complex blueprints, and generating accurate mechanical documentation, including detailed SolidWorks models for fabrication. • Familiarity with standards such as NEMA 1, NEMA 3R, and UL 891. • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a cross-functional team. • Detail-oriented, hands-on, and proactive in identifying and solving technical problems.
