Mechanical Inspector (Part-time)

NOVA Engineering is currently seeking a part-time Mechanical Building Code Inspector in the Fort Myers and Naples, FL metropolitan statistical areas. Primary duties will include performing building code inspections and/or plans review (building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing – as licensed) on residential and commercial buildings, as well as managing specific projects related to these types of code inspections. Some travel may be required for inspections and/or managing projects in the assigned area. The inspector positions are predominately field located but may occasionally include office assignments, whereas the Plan Examiners positions are primarily office-based. Essential Functions • Building Code Review and/or Quality Control Inspections • Prepare written and electronic reports, and issue notices of correction • Explain and interpret code and/or quality control regulations or requirements • Recognize, evaluate and properly resolve unique problems or situations • Maintain effective customer service relationship with clients and the public • Assist the inspection management team with business development • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Education • Required state of Florida commercial building inspection license (BN#) in the mechanical discipline • Electrical, plumbing, and Building inspection licenses are a huge plus • 3+ years’ experience performing mechanical plan review and/or inspections • High School diploma or equivalent education • Valid State Driver’s license with clean driving record NOVA is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited). • Minimum 8 years of professional experience as a mechanical engineer. • Minimum 3 years of experience managing engineering projects or leading project teams. • Proficiency in Florida Building Code, ASHRAE, NFPA, and mechanical codes. • Active Florida PE license, or ability to obtain within 6 months. • Advanced skills in Revit and AutoCAD MEP. • Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring abilities. • Proven ability to produce coordinated, code-compliant contract documents. • Experience conducting site surveys and preparing HVAC field reports. Preferred Qualifications • NCEES record or ability to obtain within 6 months. • Background in mechanical equipment installation, commissioning, or maintenance. • Experience training or mentoring staff in Revit and AutoCAD MEP workflows. • Familiarity with energy modeling, LEED documentation, or sustainable design strategies. • Formal project management training or certification (e.g., PMP) is a plus.
