Precise Systems seeks to immediately hire a full-time Mechanical Engineer to join a diverse, multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers. The team includes personnel at NRL's headquarters in Washington, DC (NRLDC), NRL's blue-water test facility in Key West, FL (NRLKW), as well as offsite personnel from other Navy facilities and collaborating companies in private industry. Work may occur in the office, the laboratory, or the field (including, potentially, shipboard work), as necessary. The job will be based in Key West, FL, but occasional travel to perform work at NRLDC may be required. Duties: • Candidate will work as a member of the technical team performing research, development and testing in a research facility focused on addressing problems in corrosion, marine fouling, mechanical testing of Naval hardware, and general mechanical design. • Hands-on work manufacturing, assembling, and testing is fundamental to the position. • Candidates must be able to work with cross-functional groups (scientists, engineers, technicians, customers and industry partners) to develop, test and transition products or technologies to practical fleet applications and solutions. • Work as part of a development team and see projects through initial concept, write proposals, execute tests, evaluate experimental results, and formally document the results as author or co-author. • Must be comfortable in handling multiple projects simultaneously. Required Education: • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. Required Experience: • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a design or shop environment. • Strong mechanical design and analysis skills. • Fluency in the latest 3-D CAD techniques and software. • Work as a part of a development team and see projects through initial concept/set-up, test and evaluation and potential demonstration in a fast-past environment. • Successful candidate must be comfortable in handling multiple projects simultaneously and will be responsible for designing and building large mechanical test systems that specialize in the analysis of new state-of-the-art marine systems. • Proficiency with mechanical and electrical and industrial systems including sensors and data collection. • Skill and experience in multiple areas, including Hydraulics, Mechanisms, Control Systems, Structures, and Materials. • Experience in specifications of mechanical systems and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. • Hands on mechanical aptitude. Desired Experience: • Experience/familiarity in large scale mechanical testing apparatus. • Proficient Solidworks, Matlab, Labview, or other similar software packages. • Proficiency in Finite Element Analysis (FEA). • Experience with vendor search, specification, and selection. • Knowledge of fracture mechanics, fatigue, welding, casting, and heat treatment is a plus. • Working knowledge of electrical design and fabrication is a plus. • Functional knowledge of how to look up and use industrial specifications such as ASTM, AWS, SAE, API, and MIL. • Interest in learning new skills to support other areas within branch as needed. • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and be comfortable interacting with a wide variety of technical and non-technical staff. • Potential for the right candidate to become a project leader on specific development projects. • Excellent written, listening, and verbal communication skills. • Excellent presentation skills. • Proficient in all MS Office applications.
