Engineer, Maintenance Technician ​/ Mechanic

Job description River Park Hospital, a 165‑bed facility and a leader in behavioral health care, located in Huntington, WV, seeks an Engineer II in our Plant Operations department. River Park provides acute inpatient services to children, adolescents, adults, and seniors, and features a 22‑bed residential treatment program for children and adolescents and a 25‑bed adult forensic unit. River Park was recently recognized as a Top Performer by the Joint Commission and maintains the highest standards for quality care. Responsibilities The Engineer II tests and inspects the physical plant equipment, completes preventive maintenance and various other duties as assigned with minimal supervision. Serves as on‑call maintenance providing evening, weekend, and holiday emergency service and all other duties as assigned by the Director of Plant Operations and/or CEO. • Inspections and troubleshooting: Regularly inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment to identify and troubleshoot potential issues. • Repairs: Make minor repairs to plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, and building structures like drywall and doors. • Preventive maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on machinery, equipment, and building systems to prevent future problems. • Record keeping: Keep detailed logs of all maintenance and repair activities, including materials used and costs. • Safety compliance: Promote safety by attending all mandatory training and complying with all safety policies. • Collaboration: Work with other maintenance staff, contractors, or managers to complete complex tasks or projects. Sample duties • Fixing a leaky faucet or replacing a light bulb. • Repairing a broken window or a hole in the wall. • Painting walls or repairing damaged flooring. • Maintaining HVAC systems to ensure a comfortable environment. • Assisting with installations of new equipment or appliances. Qualifications • High School graduate or GED required. • Two‑year technical or trade school/technical coursework or Associate’s degree preferred. • Minimum of 10 years’ experience preferred; a minimum of three years’ work experience in a hospital and/or healthcare facility preferred. • Knowledge of JCAHO, federal, state and local laws concerning facility operations. • Skill in organizing and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines. • Valid driver’s license in good standing and reliable transportation. • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new job‑related software. • Experience operating a variety of hand/power tools and equipment with proper safety precautions. • Previous electrical experience preferred. • Strong customer service skills. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required. • Knowledge and ability to troubleshoot and complete routine maintenance with plumbing, electrical, carpentry. • Ability to understand and interpret manufacturer’s specifications and written operational procedures. Physical requirements • Ability to work a 40‑hour work week. • Ability to move continuously as required to complete job duties. • Ability to operate machinery and equipment safely. • Ability to sit, stand, walk, run, bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, push, pull, and twist. • Lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds may be required without assistance. • Ability to work under any weather conditions, inside or out, without regard for temperatures at any time of day or night.
