Journeyman Mechanical Maintenance Technician

Nippon Dynawave Packaging Company has an immediate opening for Journeyman Mechanical Maintenance Technicians with a varied background in mechanical skills, including pipe fitting, and who have the ability to work in a self-directed work environment where teamwork, quality, and workplace safety are the standards. Starting wage is $44.69; wage range is $44.69 to $47.15. Key Functions: The successful candidate must safely be able to perform mechanical equipment installations, repairs, inspections, adjustments, and troubleshooting at the journeyman skill level in a heavy industrial environment. They must be able to take basic equipment information, including work plans and equipment drawings, and apply them on-the-task. They must take necessary measurements, enter requisitions, and install equipment or parts with general direction from a supervisor. This position requires excellent communication skills, willingness to learn and participate as part of a self-directed team. This includes the ability to interact constructively with team members and customers for mechanical services. The work is often performed outside in a heavy industrial process environment, which can at times include high heat, humidity, and noise. Candidates must be able to understand and perform standard safe work practices such as Lock-Out/Tag-Out, Personal Protective Equipment selection and use, and other safe work procedures/practices are requirements. Requirements: • Five years of hands-on mechanical experience in a continuous process industry or construction trade. • Journey-level rating in either pipe fitting, welding, mechanical trade, or equivalent experience. • A demonstrated commitment to safety. • Possess demonstrated interpersonal skills. • Understanding and troubleshooting of failure modes of all types of rotating assemblies (i.e. pumps, motors, gearboxes, fans, conveyors, etc.). • Understanding of best practices for installing basic rotating machinery components such as bearings, seals, and couplings. • Understanding of and ability to perform many levels of repair to maximize the process reliability of the mill. • Working knowledge of computers and associated software. Sr. Mechanical Project Engineer

This position is in Nippon Dynawave Packaging’s Engineering Department. The Engineering Department manages projects that support continued improvements in the Fiber Supply, Fiberline, Paper Machine, Extruder, Wet Lap, and Energy & Utility operating units. Project Engineer-Mechanical Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this position has responsibility for capital and major maintenance projects that support safety, reliability, and process improvements in the mill’s operating units. Strong project management and technical skills are required to coordinate the involvement of resources from Operations, Maintenance, consulting engineers, and vendors. Manage projects from design, through construction, and start up. Essential Functions • Participate and lead as appropriate in safety process improvements to ensure an injury free work site. • Coordinate designs, drawings, and specifications that will meet process and facility objectives • Evaluate, select, and apply engineering standards, proven techniques, procedures and criteria to meet project objectives. • Inspect and evaluate the condition of specific process equipment. • Troubleshoot processes and equipment, determine root cause of problems, and develop corrective action plans. • Utilize maintenance and financial software system to perform job functions for work order processing, purchase requisitions, and project cost accounting. Required Qualifications • Minimum of 5 years experience in Pulp and Paper manufacturing, Petrochemical, or Power Plant (steam, boilers, generation) facilities preferred. • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required. • Experience with boilers, steam turbines, and Power/Recovery processes preferred. • Strong commitment to safety in design and construction. • Team oriented, with a good work ethic, positive attitude, and the ability to work independently. Must be self-motivated. • Experience in administering contracts with vendors and contractors. • Proven ability to work constructively with operators, management, suppliers, contractors, and customers to achieve the project’s desired results. • Must have the ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects that span multiple engineering disciplines. • Willingness to work extended hours and off shifts when conditions warrant. • Strong communication and computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office products. Familiarity with Microsoft Project is a plus. • LEAN or Six Sigma experience desired. About Nippon Dynawave Packaging in Longview, WA: The Longview Liquid Packaging facility produces bleached paperboard used to make cartons and cups for liquids such as milk, juice, coffee, and sake. The facility employs about 500 people and produces 260,000 metric tons of paperboard each year - the equivalent of 6 billion liter-sized milk cartons. Paper Machine Mechanical Engineer

The opportunity: The Paper Machine Mechanical Engineer is responsible for maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of mechanical systems and components within paper manufacturing areas. This role ensures optimal performance, reliability, and safety of paper machines and associated equipment. How you will impact WestRock: Safety and Area Housekeeping • Conduct safety observations, submit BGS concerns and lead using Balmert tools. Support Maintenance department Incident Rate target of <1.0. • Inspect and promote housekeeping both in the shops, parts staging areas and at the job site. Troubleshoot day-to-day machine break in runnability problems • Troubleshoot and follow up on daily maintenance related machine/OCC issues affecting production. • Utilize failure mode and effects analysis and risk analysis techniques to develop the most cost-effective maintenance repair/upgrade strategies to correct machine issues. • Review and communicate a safe and corrective plan with supervisors and planners to allow them to effectively execute break in repairs or add to weekly schedule. • Develop and track simple “5-why” RCFAs and follow up tasks to ensure successful completion. Monitor the effectiveness of the corrective actions. • Interact with Reliability Engineers on recurring issues, previous root cause analyses and other equipment performance trending information. • Liaison with maintenance group to provide timely communication on maintenance repair/upgrade strategies. Identify Operating Procedure changes and upgrades needed to improve equipment reliability • Provide recommendations to Reliability Team from Reliability analyses that may involve changes in Operator Procedures. • Develop supporting data for improvement ideas, including number & frequency of occurrences, cost per occurrence and EHS implications. Provide Shutdown Planning Assistance • Aid in review of shutdown job scopes to ensure completeness. • Aid supervision to machine shutdown jobs or equipment improvement strategies as necessary. • Perform machine audits as required to identify equipment issues. • Ensuring outage plans align with project goals, deadlines, and regulatory requirements Develop Equipment Maintenance Strategies and PM program • Review Preventative Maintenance programs to ensure complete and effective. Develop Maintenance Strategies for selected systems. • Monitor performance of all equipment systems to determine the effectiveness of the Maintenance Strategies. Upgrade Preventative Maintenance programs as indicated by performance data. • Consolidate and integrate with other Preventative Maintenance plans to provide the most efficient use of equipment downtime for maintenance tasks. Provide Relief Leadership Coverage in Maintenance Superintendent Role • Provide relief Maintenance Superintendent duties for department leadership in the absence of Paper Maintenance Superintendent. Ensure Organizational Effectiveness by advancing mill vision • Support the Mill safety and health vision by identifying job safety risks and making necessary actions to resolve or mitigate. • Provide technical support to maintenance crews as necessary to ensure job tasks are completed safely and effectively. Achieve safety excellence by designing safety and ergonomics into all improvement job tasks. • Support and drive EPAM work process • Ensure all precision maintenance quality standards and specifications are completed and departments submit the appropriate paperwork for major outages. • Lead teams by facilitating group discussion, problem solving, and decision making. • Assist in the Maintenance Tradesmen training development program. • Promote and Integrate Reliability into the Culture and Daily Operation of the mill. What you need to succeed: • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Project Management, or a related field. • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Paper Machine maintenance or a similar role in the maintenance or operations field. • Strong project management and organizational skills. • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. • Proficiency in Outage planning and scheduling software. • Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance requirements. • Ability to manage budgets and control costs effectively. • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. • Ability to work in industrial environments, including exposure to various weather conditions. • Ability to stand, walk, and climb for extended periods.
