Engineering Summer Internship

Overview Join us for the summer! National Beef, a national leader in the beef industry, is looking for college students ready to explore a career in Beef Production Engineering to join our family for the summer of 2026 as an Engineering Intern. Our internship program will provide you with a hands-on opportunity to work in a Beef Processing facility from start to finish. You will be introduced to our company culture and work practices and learn how our departments function. We will place qualified interns in three locations: Liberal, Kansas; Dodge City, Kansas; and Tama, Iowa. This is a paid internship. Housing allowance is included where required. This is an on-site position. Program Length: 10-12 weeks Responsibilities Engineering Summer Internship responsibilities include but are not limited to: An engineering intern at National Beef will gain insight into the various mechanical, electrical, control, and utility systems used in a modern food processing facility. From overhead chain conveyors, belted product conveyors, mechanized processing equipment, mechanical refrigeration and air handling systems, automated material handling systems, and the maintenance team that helps support process equipment uptime. Engineering interns will work with maintenance and engineering staff at their assigned facility with an emphasis on safety, quality, and process optimization. Some key tasks include: • Learning how complex manufacturing processes are designed and maintained within a modern food processing facility • Learning how plant processes are monitored and controlled • Observing/understanding how safety is incorporated into various production systems and areas • Observing/supporting the design and implementation of new systems or equipment • Working with plant personnel to ensure proper methods and procedures are followed for system and equipment operations • Participating in the execution and oversight of preventative maintenance and repair tasks • Collaborating with the Engineering Department and engaging in networking opportunities with senior leadership • Preparing detailed reports for the senior management team and key department heads, summarizing key insights and experiences during the internship • Other duties as assigned This is a safety sensitive position. This is not a remote position. Qualifications Qualified Candidates for the Engineering Summer Internship position should possess the following: • Enrolled and have completed at least two years in an accredited college degree program focusing on Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field • Minimum GPA of 3.0 in core curriculum classes • Demonstrated leadership abilities and on-campus involvement • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills • Ability to work independently and be self-directed on project work • Proficiency with all Microsoft Office products • Availability to work 40+ hours per week (some weekend work) on-site for the duration of the internship Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
