Manufacturing Design Engineer

Summary: The Manufacturing Design Engineer combines product design principles with a deep understanding of manufacturing processes to create and refine products for efficient and cost-effective production. They are responsible for creating models, drawings, and documents. Some documents will be for communicating with and presenting to customers. They use technical knowledge of product offerings to advise and support sales teams with pricing estimates and implementation guidance based on customer requirements. Product development and sales engineering support makes up approximately 60% of the role. They are also responsible for applying principles of mechanical engineering to modify, develop, test, or adjust machinery and equipment in a manufacturing environment, to ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective production. Manufacturing engineering makes up approximately 40% of the role. The overall goal is to develop and implement solutions for customers, both internal and external. Job Responsibilities: · Update and manage design data, CAD Models, and drawings. · Perform engineering design and calculations for LORON products. · Work independently to develop product solutions from defined parameters and scope. · Work with customers and sales team to develop product requirements and specifications. · Use technical knowledge of product offerings to advise and support customers and sales team. · Conduct root-cause analysis to troubleshoot manufacturing and assembly issues. · Design and update production fixturing projects. · Lead final check off of a shipped product · Reliable attendance is an essential function of an employee’s job. · Other related duties may be assigned. Qualifications: · Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. · 1+ years Mechanical Design Experience. · Demonstrated experience using 3D Solid Modeling · Knowledge of manufacturing processes including welding, machining, and assembly. · Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. · Outstanding organizational and analytical skills. · Strong problem solving skills required. JOB SCOPE This is an engineering position requiring a formal degree. The role has no direct reports but interfaces with LORON employees and customers to understand customer needs, anticipate design possibilities, and understand constraints. The engineer uses experience and knowledge to work with others to create and/or modify designs to meet customer needs at the direction of the Plant Operations Manager. Days and hours worked will mirror the business operations which typically runs Monday -Friday. May work more than eight consecutive hours at a time or more than 40 hours in a seven-day work period depending on work demands. Occasional evening and weekend work will be necessary. Travel may be required to customer locations, company events, professional development courses, or industry conferences. Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license if your job regularly requires travel by automobile, have access to reliable transportation, and be able to travel via most efficient mode for work related travel i.e., airplane. The individual may encounter pressure in meeting customer needs, balancing competing deadlines and resource constraints. Situations must be handled in a manner that meets customer needs and does not negatively impact customer satisfaction. Customers are both internal and external. This is a safety sensitive position. WORK ENVIRONMENT Most work performed is in an office environment with climate and noise controls. Periodic work outside the office in shop areas that may or may not have climate controls will be required. Typically, the hiring range for a Manufacturing Design Engineer role is $27.70 to $41.55 per hour and compensation may vary depending on work experience, education, skills, location, and other factors LORON considers relevant to the hiring decision. LORON’s retirement program features both a traditional 401(k) and a Roth 401(k) option. After one year of service, the Company matches 50% of employee deferrals (up to a maximum of 8% of base pay). Also after one year of service, the Company provides a defined quarterly contribution of 4% of base pay.
