Lead Mechanical Engineer

Job Description Summary Based in our Florence, SC location, this Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the structural design and analysis of Superconducting magnets for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) at GE Healthcare. This role will work with cross-functional teams to design, develop, manufacture and service complex state-of-the-art MRI systems and components throughout all phases of the product development life cycle. Activities include detailed mechanical, structural, and thermodynamic design of sub-systems and components related to MRI magnets, including analysis, simulation, documentation, prototyping, testing, verification, and integration of hardware. There is a lot of latitude for design improvements in this role. Job Description Roles and Responsibilities • Mechanical and Structural design and analysis of superconducting magnets and components used in MRI systems • Participate and lead prototype build activities to ensure compliance with design intent • Design leadership of productivity and quality projects (both product cost and life cycle quality or reliability improvements) • Support current MR system installed base designs and field issues and drive to closure on site issues and investigations. • Work from product specifications and requirements to develop component and assembly geometry, specify materials, and establish acceptable performance standards. Perform complex calculations, analyses, and testing to verify assumptions and performance. • Work independently and possess a level of engineering competency necessary to complete and execute engineering project tasks with minimal oversight. • Seek senior and peer review of project and engineering work to ensure accuracy and rigor. Candidate must be willing to work in an open environment where review and feedback on engineering work is actively sought and freely given. • Engage in all phases of new product development, including concept, architecture, documentation, design, prototype, test, supplier interfaces, manufacturing introduction and service support. • Prepare using 2D and 3D CAD software, detailed drawings, and component and assembly models complete with calculated dimensions and tolerances. • Prepare engineering change requests, engineering change notices, bills of material, engineering specifications, and customer change requests. • Direct the construction and testing of prototype and pilots, and conduct analysis of the test results. • Interface directly with manufacturing employees to clarify questions on drawings and designs. Assist manufacturing in troubleshooting production issues on standard and special products. Required Qualifications • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited institution. • 2-3 years relevant work experience and knowledge of applied mechanical engineering design, analysis, and verification of mechanical systems • Working knowledge of FEA using ANSYS or other Multiphysics simulation packages. • Knowledge of industry and academic practices and standards related to mechanical design and fabrication in a product environment. • Experience with mechanical tools, including hand tools, fabrication tools, and measurement equipment. • Modeling skills with experience in solid modeling packages such as PRO/E Desired Characteristics • 2-3 years’ experience working with ProEngineering/Creo for mechanical engineering design of medical products. • Knowledge and experience of different manufacturing processes related to metal fabrication and welding. • Understanding of mechanical design and pressure vessel standards. • Experience with numerical analysis tools and optimization methods • Hands on hardware experience on mechanical systems and components • Paper to product experience with ability to read and apply GD&T #MyRoleIsVital #Everyrolesvital #LI-BR1 #LI-Onsite GE offers a great work environment, professional development, challenging careers, and competitive compensation. Mechanical Designer

The Mechanical Designer position is responsible for modeling and drawing generation of a wide range of mechanical hardware and components designed for use in elevator systems. The candidate should not only be adept at handling typical design tasks (modeling and detailing) but must be able to effectively communicate cross-functionally. The designer will be a member of the Design Services Group operating out of Florence, South Carolina, which is home to the North American System Elevator Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain operations. Responsibilities: • Provide design support to internal and external customers. • Modify and develop new component solutions to increase product robustness. • Support and resolve engineering issues. • Develop component and system level models and drawings. • Support cost reduction efforts. Essential Skills: • 5 to 7 years minimum experience in 3D solid modeling and 2D detailing using Creo. • Experience using Windchill. • Strong communication skills. • Ability to work effectively within a team environment. • Desire and passion for innovation and creativity. • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
