Midcon Cables Company, a leading provider of cabling and wire interconnect solutions for the aerospace industry has an immediate opening for a Manufacturing Engineering Technician on day shift at our facility in North Myrtle Beach, SC. The Manufacturing Engineering Technician reports directly to the South Carolina Engineering Manager. This position is based out of the North Myrtle Beach, SC plant, but will be primarily tasked with providing daily engineering support to a second facility 100 miles away in Bennettsville, SC. Occasional travel to the second facility will be required. Compensation will be provided to cover the expenses. This is an entry level engineering position with room to grow as company needs change and experience is gathered. This position requires an employee to be organized, a self-starter, and able to accept directions and follow through with little supervision. Ability to work well in a self -directed, cross functional work team environment with rapidly changing demands. Attention to detail is a must. Acting with urgency and seeing projects through in a timely fashion is required. The Manufacturing Engineering Technician will assist the Bennettsville facility Engineer by performing a variety of duties such as process work instruction development and enhancement, evaluation of manufacturing processes, and initiating engineering change notices. The position requires a high proficiency using office productivity software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, etc.) Excellent in-person & virtual communication. This position requires multiple daily video calls interfacing with the Bennettsville facility. Basic skills in CAD software (specifically AutoCAD and/or Solidworks) is preferred. The position requires an understanding and application of lean thinking. Applicant must have strong mechanical aptitude and basic knowledge of engineering terminology and concepts. Experience reading and understanding complex engineering drawings related to wiring harnesses and related components. On-site training for the above areas (and more) will be provided for a strong candidate. A desire to learn and grow is very much a key to success with this position. Ignite torches or start power suppliers and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded. • Fabricate and construct piping segments and attach fittings that require field fit-up, erection, and assembly. • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind, or bolt parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding. • Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors. • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding. • Examine workpieces for defects and measure workpieces to ensure conformance with specifications. • Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment. • Follows all safety policies and procedures. • Other such duties and responsibilities as assigned by the company from time to time. Qualifications And Requirements • Minimum of 3 years of pipe welding (field) to include all the following procedures: • MIG • TIG • Stick • Must be able to pass an in-house welding test (6G criteria) • Must have own hand tools. • Must successfully pass a background check and drug test • Ability to weld diverse types of metals • Knowledge of hand and power tools • Ability to read blueprints • Physical Demands: Occasional sitting, frequent stooping, crouching, kneeling, balancing, and climbing. Constant standing, walking, reaching and gripping. Vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to talk and hear. Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
