Junior Mechanical Assembler (Newport News, VA)

Position Description If you love engaging in manual projects supporting the U.S Navy and our U.S Naval Ships, Serco has a great opportunity for you! Serco is hiring a Junior Mechanical Assembler to be part of a dynamic team supporting our US. Navy with equipment, and C5ISR system installations located in the beautiful surroundings of Newport News, Virginia. Serco supports our US Naval Ships with successful and safe work by providing cabling, equipment, and C5ISR system installations for our Military. You will join an amazing team to fabricate, and assemble various electromechanical and electronic assemblies by applying appropriate safety techniques You will also play a critical role in ensuring that successful and safe work is performed on-board U.S. Naval Ships and our Military installations, which is vital to our Mission to protect and serve our Military. In this role, you will: • Follow blueprints, guidelines, and/or diagrams to fabricate and assemble various electromechanical and electronic assemblies. • Perform work with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within field. • Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. • Work on-board U.S. Naval Ships and military installations in an area that is somewhat uncomfortable due to drafts, noise, temperature variation and the like and with equipment where carelessness would probably result in minor cuts, bruises, muscle strains, serious injury, or death. Qualifications To be successful in these roles, you will have: • The ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance. • High School Diploma or GED. • The ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation, and pass a drug screening. • The ability to obtain a Firewatch and Cable Installer certification. • 2 years of Shipboard experience in a related field. and/or combination of experience in the following areas: • Ability to bolt/unbolt cableways, deck plates & equipment • Drill holes (with supervision) • Operate light machinery/ equipment (with training) • Position, join, align, wrap & seal pipe & conduit sections • Ability to follow directions of senior employees • Carry equipment & clean spaces • Remove lagging & paint • The ability to Identify safety concerns in immediate work environment • Sound technical knowledge base of discipline’s standard concepts, principles, and techniques. • The ability to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking, lift up to 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position. • The ability and bewilling to travel up to 10% to various work sites. • The ability to work independently, in a team environment and under stressful conditions with tight deadlines. • The ability to work in Newport News, VA. Engineering Technician

Day to Day: Insight Global is looking for an Engineering Technician for a large engineering consulting firm in North Charleston, NC. The ideal candidate will perform regular testing, observation, and inspection of construction projects. They will communicate about the project site and project requirements with the PM, other engineering technicians, and the client. Each day, they will go to the office to meet with their manager, go to the job site, perform necessary responsibilities for the client; check-in with the PM with testing results; and contact dispatcher for another assignment or go home if work is complete. They will work on a single project site or go from project to project all within 20-35 min of the Charleston area (given company vehicle for commute/paid for time in car). They will monitor fill placements, soil placements, work with concrete cylinders, and test concrete as it’s placed. They will also transport material samples for further testing and analysis, and complete appropriate laboratory data entry. At the end of each day, they will complete a digital report of their findings. Candidates should have excellent communication skills, maintain and clean equipment, and adhere to strict safety standards.
