Mechanical Production Supervisor

Position Summary– The Mechanical Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the machine shop, ensuring efficient workflow, quality production and compliance with safety and company policies. This role requires strong leadership skills, hands-on technical expertise, and the ability to manage a team of machinists and technicians in a fast-paced environment Position Reports To: Production Manager Subordinates: Assistant Supervisor, Machinists, Welders, Sandblaster, Material handler Duties and Responsibilities: Supervise, schedule, and coordinate activities of machine shop personnel, including CNC machinists, manual machinists and setup operators. Plan and prioritize workloads to meet production deadlines and quality standards. Provide necessary instructions and drawings to the subordinates. Correct any drawing or instruction found to be discrepant through the use of an ECP. Maintain raw material stock levels & shop supplies Inspect all completed assemblies to ensure all orders are in compliance with Hoffer Flow Controls workmanship standards. Monitor machine performance, tooling and workflow to optimize production efficiency. Support preventive maintenance and proper use of machines and tools. Ensure adherence to safety protocols, quality control standards and company policies. Train, evaluate, mentor and certify production personnel; support performance improvement and skill development. Collaborate with engineering, maintenance and quality teams to resolve technical and process issues. Keep production manager informed of any problems which might affect quality or delivery. Maintain accurate records of production, downtime, scrap and personnel performance. Maintain a culture of continuous improvement through the use of Lean and 5S principles. Authority Level Reject any nonconforming items (internal and external vendor) Authority to praise/reprimand employees if needed. Viable access to the Stockroom. QA Inspection of all products Qualifications Successful completion of High School Graduation or GED required; technical degree or certification in machining or manufacturing is preferred. Minimum of five years experience in a machine shop environment including 2+ years in a supervisory role. Strong knowledge of machining practices, CNC programming and tooling. Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings and work instructions. Familiarity with ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent leadership, communication and organizational skills. Solid written and verbal communication skills Capability to effectively work in a team-oriented work environment. High standards of excellence, high integrity and work ethic Working Conditions Manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, moving machinery and metalworking fluids. Ability to stand, lift and move materials or equipment (up to 50 lbs) for extended periods. Climate controlled Machine Shop Full-time positions which may require occasional overtime or weekend work based on production needs. Basis of Evaluation The Mechanical Production Supervisor will be evaluated on the following basis: 1. Initiative to seek new and better methods to do the job. 2. Delivery reliability for quotes and execution of production schedule. 3. Orderliness of the area and that of the subordinates 4. Quality of workmanship and returned rejects such as scrap.
