Mechanical Design Engineer - Interim

Overview We are searching for a freelance hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. The Design Engineer should have a clear understanding of the components of the products and the ability to create designs for all mechanical devices and equipment, being Highway Transportation Equipment, in our Upper-Structure division. We are seeking a dynamic and innovative Mechanical Design Engineer to join our forward-thinking engineering team. In this role, you will be at the forefront of developing cutting-edge mechanical systems and components, transforming concepts into tangible solutions that drive technological progress. Your expertise will be essential in designing, analyzing, and optimizing mechanical devices, ensuring they meet rigorous industry standards and client specifications. Duties · Establishing the technical needs of the customer and suggesting appropriate solutions. · Prepare calculations before completing technical drawings. · Sketch and draw up designs using input from the technical sales team and customers. · Calculate factors like tolerance, dimensions, and structural analysis. · Submit drawings to the Technical Sales Manager. · Use customer feedback and data to upgrade, improve or repair equipment. · Provide support during production process, ensuring that the equipment is built properly and according to design specifications. · Maintain and manage the Production Schedule for Upper Structure division based on input from customers, sales, purchasing and vendors. · Finalize designs and send prints to production department. · Keeping in touch with the key vendors and ordering necessary parts in a timely manner. This also includes the preparation of the purchase requisitions for the purchase manager for all parts to be ordered for a designed or to be designed unit. · Processing sales orders for material purchasing and production manufacturing through the creation of Bills of Materials and Major Purchase Requisitions. · Checking the real dimensions of all flatbed trailers, van chassis or any other chassis delivered to us. Check if built to specifications. Adapt the design where needed before launch to production as dimensions might be slightly different from the drawings received upfront. · Problem resolution through warranty investigation and solutions. · Inspect the final product for potential future improvements if applicable. · Other activities may include reproducing and archiving designs. · Reports to: General Manager. Qualifications · 7+ years of experience in a Mechanical Design Engineering role or related experience with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. · Savvy about Transportation Equipment /Automotive is an important advantage. · Exceptional written & verbal communication skills. · Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. · Deep IT & CAD/CAM knowledge. · Profound experience with SolidWorks and or SolidWorks PDM Professional · Strong computer & mathematical skills. · Experience designing industry-specific equipment. · Flexible approach to work and ability to adapt to change. · Able to work in a team environment. · Self-motivated attitude and the ability to use initiative. · Office attendance is required · Knowledge of Spanish is an extra asset Candidates must be able to bring a flexible mindset, challenge traditional thinking, and be prepared to work outside of their comfort zone. Assignment · Full-time assignment: 40 hours per week · Office hours: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm · Daily on-site presence required. · Duration: 3 months, eventually extendable when needed. Job Title: Lead Mechanical Engineer Job Description We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer to spearhead our team of electrical and HVAC engineers. This role involves overseeing the creation and updating of General, HVAC, and Electrical drawings for various stages of project approval and completion. The ideal candidate will serve as the primary contact and representative for engineering teams during meetings and calls, ensuring the accurate communication of progress and needs. Responsibilities • Lead a team of electrical and HVAC engineers to create and update General (G sheets), HVAC (M Sheets), and Electrical (E sheets) for Issued for Approval, As-built, and Closeout Submittal drawing sets. • Act as the project manager and main representative of the engineering team during meetings and calls with clients or the Integrated Manufacturing Operations team. • Create standards for integrated manufacturing HVAC designs and controls for modular e-houses. • Perform the final review of Issued for Approval, As-built, and Closeout Submittal drawings to ensure compliance with clients’ scope, specifications, and applicable codes. • Ensure that HVAC and Electrical designs adhere to national and local codes, fulfilling all client requirements. • Perform heat load calculations for each project and ensure proper sizing of HVAC equipment. • Create and verify CFD analysis for each project to ensure HVAC design meets heat load requirements. • Be proficient in AutoCAD to assist in creating and updating General, HVAC, and Electrical drawings when necessary. • Coordinate with HVAC, Enclosure, and Electrical vendors and suppliers to select the best-engineered systems for each project. • Communicate and coordinate with the engineering team to keep the Engineering Manager informed of design issues, schedule impacts, and resolutions. • Ensure Electrical Engineering is updated on electrical requirements and spacing needs for HVAC equipment. • Answer questions for the Integrated Manufacturing production and operations team. • Innovate the modular building HVAC design by contributing new ideas and discussing them with the Engineering Manager. Essential Skills • Proficiency in HVAC, mechanical, and mechanical design. • Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit. • Experience in project management or leading junior engineers. • Strong background in mechanical engineering and construction.
