Mechanical Specialist

The Mechanic Specialist position can be based out of Kinder Morgan’s Tennessee Gas Pipeline (TGP) compressor station in Agua Dulce, Robstown, Corpus Christi, or Refugio in TX. Kinder Morgan is one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America. We own an interest in or operate approximately 84,000 miles of pipelines and 157 terminals. Our pipelines transport natural gas, gasoline, crude oil, carbon dioxide (CO2) and more. Our terminals store and handle petroleum products, chemicals and other products. This is a great opportunity if you have experience performing maintenance and overhauls on compressors, reciprocating engines, turbines, pumps, and extruders from various manufacturers including Caterpillar, Ingersoll Rand, Clark Cooper Bessemer, and Solar or if you have similar experience working in Refinery, Manufacturing, Railroad or Pipeline industries or while serving our country in the Military. Primary Purpose: • Repair and maintain mechanical equipment and/or auxiliary equipment. • Perform heavy mechanical maintenance and replacement of reciprocating and turbine engines and compressors, including prime movers and auxiliary units. • This position reports to a Crew Leader to ensure consistency in maintenance practices and detailed computer documentation. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • These duties include assessing the condition of engine and compressor components as well as performing the required maintenance based on company standards and original manufacturer's specifications. • Identify, report, and assist in correcting safety and environmental concerns. • Complete appropriate documentation and paperwork timely and accurately. • Perform all work in compliance with company standards, procedures, and regulatory and tariff requirements. • Demonstrate performance toward operational excellence. • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance, and high level of performance. • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public. • Overtime may be required and is anticipated. • Required to carry a company-provided cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours. • This position requires the individual to follow all safety policies so that tasks and assignments are completed in a safe and environmentally responsible manner, with an emphasis on finishing each day injury and incident free. Position Requirements Education • High school diploma or equivalent is required Experience / Specific Knowledge: • Experience in mechanical maintenance of reciprocating/centrifugal compressor units. • Also, preferably, experience with turbine engines, natural gas compressors, auxiliary engines, and related equipment. Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations: • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license, and maintain a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers Competencies: • Strong mechanical skills and knowledge of compressor engines. • Preferably, experience with turbine engines, natural gas compressors, auxiliary engines, and related equipment. • Ability to operate forklifts and light industrial equipment. • Ability to read and interpret various company policies and procedures, Operations & Maintenance (O&M) manual and blueprints. • Ability to respond in a timely manner to any emergency or after-hours calls. • Good communication skills - must be able to interface effectively with many internal and external customers, regulatory officials, company contacts and co-workers. • Knowledge of mechanical equipment, internal combustion engines, gas turbines, pumps, compressors, and related equipment. • Basic computer skills (knowledge of MS Office, operating systems, company software if applicable), trainable to custom software applications, • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals) • Customer focus. • Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), focus attention on details, follow work rules, and adhere to required work schedules. • This individual will be responsible for administrative tasks including ordering and receiving required replacement parts, completing personal timesheets and expense accounts, and maintaining a company vehicle. • This position requires acting as a company representative when interacting with contractors and vendors. • This individual will be required to work effectively in a team atmosphere.
