Role Under the direction of the shop foreman, the skilled Vehicle Mechanic is responsible for performing mechanical repairs and general maintenance on buses, trucks, and automobiles. Essential Functions Reporting directly to the Shop Foreman, the Vehicle Mechanic performs the following duties: • Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality on the job. • Work independently and in groups to perform repairs and maintenance on school buses, utility trucks, and automobiles. • Operate a service truck to provide road service for Board of Education vehicles. • Log into and out of work orders, update, review, and close work orders, using fleet maintenance software (Faster). • Drive a regular school bus route as a substitute driver when needed. Performs other duties as assigned by the Lead Vehicle Mechanic or Shop Foreman. Please Note: Selected candidate must satisfactorily pass the appropriate medical examination for the position. Required Qualifications • High School diploma or equivalent. • Three (3) years of experience as an automobile and/or truck repair mechanic. • Graduation from an automobile and/or truck repair vocational or trade school. Note: Two years of additional experience as an automobile and/or truck repair mechanic may be substituted for the required vocational or trade school training. • Certification as a school bus driver or receive certification within 3 months of employment date. • A clean driver's records with no more than two (2) points within the last 2 years. • Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. • Sufficient physical strength and stamina to lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds, stand for extended periods of time, and complete work requiring considerable physical exertion. • Regular and predictable attendance.
