The Work: As a Junior Mechanical Engineer, you will serve as an engineering consultant and technical expert on mission-critical infrastructure, systems, and equipment. You will apply professional knowledge of scientific and engineering concepts, principles, phenomena and relationships to assess specific requirements, delineate appropriately engineered designs, and develop preliminary and final design plans, engineering specifications, cost estimates and procurement packages in support of the operation, preventive maintenance and repair of mechanical. electrical, plumbing, utility and mission critical systems and equipment. This position is Hybrid, In-Office in Arlington, VA 2-3 days per week. Key Responsibilities: • Specify functional requirements. • Design and test components. • Analyze designs. • Integrate components. • Evaluate overall design effectiveness, cost, reliability, and safety. • Design, analyze, configure, test, and troubleshoot systems. • Provide project engineering/program management support. • Offer development and evaluation support. • Deliver engineering/life cycle support of a complex nature in a narrow area of specification. • Conduct surveys and investigations at project sites to secure necessary data prior to initiating design work. • Exhibit creativity, motivation, persistence and versatility. • Disseminate information both in writing and verbally, explaining complex technical information clearly to engineers, contractors, and facility/owner staff across all communication platforms. • Work both independently as well as part of a team. • Maintain the highest professional standards. • Manage multiple tasks and priorities. • Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: • Must have a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or directly related field. • This is an entry-level role; it requires 0-2 years of experience. Some experience or related internships preferred. • Must be proficient with the MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). • Must have proficiency with MS Project, Visio, CAD, BIM, Energy Management or Modeling. Citizenship/Clearance Requirements: • Must be a U.S. Citizen and be able to obtain and maintain up to a Top Secret clearance due to our customer requirements and the nature of the work that we do. Preferred Qualifications: • An Active Secret or higher Security Clearance. Physical Considerations: • Must be able to walk construction sites with uneven surfaces, carry up to 25 lbs., climb stairs and ladders, and work both indoors and outdoors in severe weather conditions, in confined spaces, and in dust generating environments. • Must be able to maintain spatial awareness and comply with safety standards while working near mechanical and electrical building equipment and systems. • Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required. Your Key Responsibilities • Participate in all phases of commissioning projects which may include a variety of complex features, including planning, scheduling, and coordination of work. • Perform engineering design reviews, prepare commissioning test procedures and reports, direct client-site testing and manage the training of on-site staff. • Prepare equipment pre-start-up and start-up procedures; Development of standard operating procedures (SOP's) and Methods of Procedures (MOPs); Comprehensive Commissioning documentation. • Prepare commissioning test procedures and reports • Develop and maintain commissioning logs, equipment checklists, and other tools to track commissioning projects. • Prepare comprehensive reports; recommendations for optimizing building operations, functional checklists, list of deficiencies, equipment operation and maintenance manuals. • Review design criteria, specifications, drawings, equipment submittals, and other documentation pertinent to commissioning. • Participate in commissioning activity meetings. • Interface with construction contractors, vendors, and testing technicians. • Conduct tests and compile all testing procedure results. • Integrated system testing; • Develop and administer functional tests for various building Mechanical systems, such as HVAC air and water distribution systems, air handling units, pumps, cooling towers, chillers, boilers, etc. • Planning, directing, and monitoring all aspects of commissioning services for both new and existing buildings. Your Capabilities and Credentials • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal (this role requires heavy amount of writing, documentation, and client interaction). • High competency in technical writing, systems development and utilization. • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, AutoCAD. • Knowledge of MEP systems and controls design, installation, and operation a plus. • Strong presentation and communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information to a wide audience, including contractors, architects, engineers, and others with varying degrees of technical knowledge. • This position will require domestic and/or international travel up to 75% of the time, • Proven track record of performing commissioning planning, functional testing, building performance investigation including re-commissioning, retro-commissioning and/or preventative maintenance, and building system troubleshooting experience for new and existing buildings. • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
