Overview Merrick & Company’s Nuclear Services & Technology team provides full service nuclear design solutions to the federal government (DOE, NNSA, and NIST), nuclear research, and nuclear medicine. Merrick is seeking a highly motivated, team oriented Mechanical Engineer to support our operations in one of our Merrick office's or remotely. Client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship. What You'll Do The successful candidate will design HVAC and Plumbing/Piping system for a variety of facility projects. Tasks include developing design calculations, process flow diagrams, sequences of operation, equipment selection and layout, ductwork and piping sizing and layout, support of project proposals, interdisciplinary coordination and participating of QA/QC process. Part time efforts will be devoted to site inspection and construction administration. This position is primarily a leadership role and will be part of a design team environment. • Must be willing to work in a design team environment, including directing the work of junior engineers and designers, and delegating work as required as well as take design direction from senior-level engineers • Interdisciplinary coordination • Develop calculations, flow diagrams, and specifications • Size and layout ductwork, hydronic and plumbing piping systems • Lead QA/QC processes • Proficient with codes, standards and guidelines Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree (B. S.) in Mechanical Engineering from an A.B.E.T. accredited program. • A minimum of eight (8) years related experience. • Candidate must have their PE license. • Must understand the importance of Business Development, project management for A-E firms, managing to fee and demonstrate skills in a multi-discipline teams. • Experience interfacing with client contacts. • Strong experience with thermal load calculation and energy modeling for mechanical systems. • Strong experience in calculating and sizing of mechanical equipment including AHUs, fans and pumps. • Strong experience in sizing and laying out ductwork and hydronic piping systems. • Experience designing clean rooms and/or hot cells. • Experience in nuclear HVAC and nuclear facility ventilation design. • Client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship.
