Lead Mechanical Engineer

Your Opportunity We are seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer for our Energy & Resources business line to lead a team of electrical engineers and designers in the execution of THERMAL GENERATION PROJECTS. The project scope will be for either Owner’s Engineer or Detailed Engineering/Design services for simple cycle, combined cycle, and/or repowering projects. The individual must be an excellent communicator and skilled problem-solver with a strong attention to detail and teamwork. Your Key Responsibilities • Work with clients to solve their problems by assembling and leading an electrical engineering project team comprised of engineers, designers, and specialists. Build the plan, lead the team, change manage along the way, and assure a quality outcome. • Apply design skills to prepare or coordinate the preparation of contract drawings, specifications, schedules, details, and sketches from conceptual design through to construction. • Collaborate with electrical team members, other Stantec disciplines, and clients to achieve project success, acting as a project team member or a project leader. • Successfully carry out assignments on project design teams. • Effectively communicate with other team members in the department or project team. • Manage and lead electrical aspects of projects. • Assist in developing proposals • Provide technical expertise, mentoring and support to team members. • Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers. • Develops project scope, budgets, and design approach for all size projects. Qualifications Your Capabilities and Credentials • Must be self-motivated, team oriented, efficient, and a good communicator. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. • Strong leadership skills, with proven ability to lead project teams and activities. • Strong collaborative skills while working with a single or multi-discipline team. • Effective written and verbal communication skills. • Strong organizational and time management skills. • Strong project management skills. • Ability to follow Stantec's quality control guidelines. • Understanding the importance of complying with Stantec's Employee Health and Safety (EH&S) program, with a focus on safety in the field. • Desire to be mentored by Senior staff and to adapt to feedback as required. Desire to help mentor and coach others and contribute to strengthening the competency and culture of a broader team. Education and Experience • A Mechanical Engineering Degree from an accredited university. • At least 10 years’ Engineering design and construction experience with power plant projects • Experience in leading a Mechanical project group in the development of the full array of mechanical and piping drawings and documents required to construct a power plant, including, but not limited to, heat/mass balances, P&IDs, site plans, equipment arrangement drawings, mechanical equipment specification, fluid system calculations, piping drawings and isometrics, etc. • Professional Engineer status with any US state licensure board is preferred, but not required. The successful candidates will primarily work in a flexible office environment. Some field work and periodic travel may be required.
