The role of Senior Structural Engineer is to work as the design leader of a small bridge squad, integrated within our larger bridge teams, on a variety of bridge and structural projects related to pedestrian, vehicular, railroad, and other critical infrastructure. The Senior Structural Engineer will provide direct supervision; act as an advisor and may become actively involved, as required, to meet schedules and resolve problems. The successful candidate will serve in a lead technical and supervisory role for both highway and rail projects and will be independently responsible for the management of clients, staff, and projects. You will assist with internal and external client marketing, assembly of detailed PS&E packages, and writing of construction specifications for structures such as bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and foundations. Your Key Responsibilities • Serve as a Senior Project Manager and a Design Squad Group Leader • Serve as a senior technical leader for the planning, design, and analysis of complex concrete and steel bridge and rail projects and structures • Develop task scopes and budgets to meet project delivery requirements • Managing the bridge or structural tasks for multi-discipline projects, consisting of developing structure rehabilitation or replacement strategies, completing structural analysis, design for a variety of transportation structures, and preparing contract documents, specifications and reports • Application of advanced structural engineering principles to provide engineering solutions for assessment, evaluation, design, rehabilitation, and strengthening of bridges and other transportation structures • Lead and assist teams in preparing construction contract documents, plans and reports • Conduct advanced interpretations and quality reviews of drawings, codes, and other similar materials • Perform and/or supervise advanced calculations and structural analysis/modeling using company standard software and/or proprietary manufacturer software • Stay up to date on regulatory changes • May write and negotiate proposals as project issues arise with clients or reviewing agencies • Perform occasional field work to assess site conditions and gather data to support proposals, design development, or construction phase engineering, as needed. • Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned • Provide work direction to and mentor junior professional and technical staff Qualifications Your Capabilities and Credentials • Efficient project management of multiple concurrent projects • Ability to lead one or more teams through all phases of project planning, design, and document production • Advanced understanding in the use and application of relevant structural design, load rating, and analysis concepts and methods • Proven experience with structural design and load rating software such as AASHTOWare, BRASS, CSiBridge, LEAP Software, SAP2000, Larsa 4D, LPile/Group, MDX, Midas, STAAD, MDX, and others • Practical experience applying the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation • Ability to use MicroStation preferred and proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite and Mathcad • Assessment and validation of software calculation results • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting, to engage in creative and critical thought, and to effectively communicate concepts and ideas to others. • Be a detailed oriented and highly organized individual that can demonstrate the initiative and commitment to a final professional product for clients • Self-motivated person with strong written and verbal communication skills • Experience in alternate project delivery methods including design-build project experience preferred. • Strong seismic Design/Analysis Experience is plus Education and Experience • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Civil/Structural Engineering; Master of Science (MS) degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or higher preferred • PE license required, SE licensure is a plus • Ability to become licensed as PE in multiple states through NCEES or similar is preferred • Must have a minimum of 15 years of bridge design experience • CDOT, ADOT,NDOT, NMDOT, UDOT, WSDOT, and/or Caltrans experience is preferred • Proven design and project delivery experience • Demonstrate ownership, initiative and attention to detail and accuracy • Proven ability to deliver a wide variety of project scopes on time and budget Position will primarily require work in an office setting; the role will require occasional field work as described above.
