Locomotive Mechanic

• **Disclaimer: Indeed enters in estimated salary but this does not accurately reflect the actual pay for this position Locomotive Mechanic - Southwestern Railroad Position Summary The Locomotive Mechanic inspects, repairs, and maintains locomotives consistent with company polices. Team member will be required to perform mechanical related maintenance as required. The ability to work with others to be productive is essential to the success of this position, the company, and all employees. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: ​ • Implementation of and compliance with the company safety plan. • Tolerate no less than a respectful workplace. • Develop and sustain an environment where all obstacles of success are constantly communicated to everyone affected. • Communications between all parties are absolutely clear. • Constantly searching for both safe and productive ways of performance. • Compliance with confidentiality policy as stated in company employee manual. • Coordinate locomotive mechanical department functions with all other departments. • Comply with the guidelines set forth by the FRA on Personal Blue Signal Protection of Workers. • Work with customers to assure a level of customer service consistent with company goals. • Work with connecting railroads to assure efficient interchange of cars and locomotives. • Perform air tests, inspect, and repair locomotives or components for structural defects and wear according to FRA and manufacturing guidelines. • Rules compliance with all rules, regulations and programs including drug and alcohol. • Be proficient and knowledgeable on the interchange rules as they pertain to locomotives. • Possess working knowledge of the proper use of various wear limit gauges and testing equipment. • Must possess the ability to complete written forms and reports as well as necessary Federal Railroad Administration reports pertaining to machinist position responsibilities. • Must possess the ability to become a qualified locomotive inspector according to the FRA regulations. • Familiar with state and federal regulations as it relates to the railroad industry. • Must be able to perform emergency repairs and re-railing of railroad rolling stock. • Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. • Must have a working knowledge of and be familiar with various types of tools and equipment such as, but not limited to, welders, torches, hammers, jacks, and various types of other mechanical, pneumatic, and hand tools pertaining to the construction and maintenance of locomotives. • Develop the skills of subordinate employee(s) to assure highly qualified successors are in place • Other responsibilities as assigned Requirements and Experience: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • High School diploma or equivalent. • Must have completed a three-year Railroad Apprenticeship or have four years railroad related experience or five years’ experience in some other mechanical field. • Must posse’s valid driver’s license and be insurable by company insurance provider to drive and operate company vehicles and equipment, as necessary. Must have or must be able to obtain a Class B CDL driver’s license. • Must have the ability to become a qualified Service Engineer according to Federal Railroad Administration regulations and will be required to perform electrical duties as required. Reading & Language Skills: • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and federal and state regulations. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of this organization. Ability to write and update rules and manuals to assure continuous compliance with all federal regulations. • The team member in this job must be able to pass Track Ground School, GCOR Written Test, Roadway Worker Protection Written Test, Fall Protection Written Test, Maintenance of Way Safety Written Test, MSHA/OSHA Training and Certification (if required on site). • High school education or general education (GED) • Must be 18 years or older. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Must have the ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out written and oral instructions. • Must have the ability to write legibly. • Must be able to perform duties that require heavy lifting. • Must be willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. • Must be able to have a flexible work schedule. • Must have the ability to recognize problems. • Must have knowledge of Roadway Protection Rules. • Must have a broad understanding of railroad operations. $15.45 - $24.72 Hourly $32,130 - $51,408 Annually This position is a Pay Band EA Posting Details Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two (2) weeks of closing date. Why does the job exist? The purpose of this position is to assist the district surveyor and tech support in conducting field to finish surveys for design development, right of way acquisition/monumentation and construction of highway improvement projects. How does it get done? -Field Surveying using Global Position System and conventional methods. -Research and gather information, Review as-builds and field books to locate boundaries, right of way limits, and control points necessary to perform surveys. -Gather property owner information. -Prepare reports and plats. Mechanic (Diesel)

The primary role of the Mechanic is to diagnose and repair fleet and equipment in order to optimize the needs of operations and minimize equipment down time. Essential Responsibilities: • Inspect, diagnose, adjust and repair power train, electrical, suspension, brake, hydraulic and air systems on vehicles and equipment. • Assist in execution of preventative maintenance program by performing oil and fluid changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, CHP BIT inspections, etc. • Perform on-road emergency service calls. • Make recommendations for parts, equipment and fabrication orders. • Utilizes vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiate repairs. • Utilize fleet management software to perform data entry, maintain accurate records and prepare various reports upon request, paying close attention to accuracy and detail. • Utilize service manuals as well as online technical resources, service literature and diagnostic software. • Observe and comply with hazardous waste and material handling and disposal procedures and regulations as set forth by local, state and federal environmental and health agencies. • Observe and comply with all applicable safety regulations, rules, policies and procedures. • Maintain clean, safe and organized work space. • Maintain collaborative working relationship with drivers, operators and coworkers and communicate timeline for downed vehicles. • Mentor and provide assistance to Mechanic Trainees. • Participate in external, Department and Company-wide trainings to increase skill sets and improve service. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of: • Diesel and/or compressed natural gas engines, heavy equipment mechanical components and parts. • Methods, tools, equipment and systems used in the inspection, diagnosis and repair of trucks and heavy equipment. • Vehicle computer diagnostic systems and fleet management software. • Federal, state and local job site health and safety rules, regulations and best practices.
