Mechanical Technician

Position: Mechanical Technician New Job Description Inspections and Preventive / Planned Maintenance: • Checks and assesses the condition of handling equipment, pneumatic and/or mechanical/electrical, reception and silo installations, grinding, mixing and pressing lines, bag filling, feed and/or fertilizer, bulk loading and weighbridges, based on maintenance schedules/checklists. • Restores (imminent) defects and performs corrective maintenance activities arising from inspections (according to schedule). • Signals to the superior (potential) flaws with details of the nature and severity, proposing solutions to avoid (future or recurring) problems with the functioning of (parts) of equipment/machinery/transport systems. • Orders/polls spare parts and materials for maintenance. • Works on planned maintenance activities of more extensive and/or complex nature (i.e. during maintenance stops) and may supervise technicians of third parties. Malfunctions and Defects / Repairs: • Troubleshoots malfunctions and defects in equipment, machinery, measuring and control systems, and other parts of the installation. • Assesses the nature and extent of the problem and determines whether instant repair is necessary or possible, assessing any fault causes and potential solutions. • Performs emergency repairs, disassembles (parts of) equipment/machinery, and makes necessary repairs/changes to the equipment, if necessary in consultation with the supervisor. • Performs more extensive repairs at scheduled times based on prepared planning and instructions (disassembly/assembly, parts replacement, set/adjust parts). • Works with colleagues on jobs of more extensive and/or complex nature and may supervise technicians of third parties. Modifications and Improvements: • Carries out modifications and overhaul work based on work orders and/or instructions from the supervisor. • Proposes improvements in equipment, machinery, and other areas based on expertise and experience in maintenance. • Consults with management on quality issues, technical issues/problems, etc. • Orders (re) making certain components from drawings. • May perform various techniques (welding, lathe and plate work, machining). Reporting: • Logs all maintenance activities in the appropriate maintenance management systems to maintain a complete administration and insight into the state and history of all equipment, filing all technical data. Compliance: • Works in compliance with all relevant safety regulations and procedures (work permits, LoTo, etc.), as well as technical standards. • Signals potential hazardous and/or unsafe situations, taking appropriate action in case of imminent unsafe situations.#J-18808-Ljbffr

MECHANIC

This position serves as an entry level mechanic in the performance of maintenance and repairs of gas, and diesel power equipment. The work schedule may be modified to reflect the public’s demand for transportation service, which will change the need for vehicle maintenance. This position will require the maintenance of all city vehicles not just transit vehicles. • *This position has been classified as a safety sensitive position and is subject to our drug testing policy to include pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident for the following prohibited substances: marijuana, amphetamines, opioids, phencyclidine (PCP), and cocaine, as well as any drug not approved for medical use by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.** • Repair hydraulic systems including repair or replacement of hoses, pistons, seals & pumps. • Repairs all types of brake systems on light to heavy duty equipment including replacing worn out brake shoes or discs, repairs to master cylinders, etc. • Perform basic welding & fabrication of the welding of bumper, braces, clutch rods, construction equip & blades. • Diagnose problems to determine best, most cost effective & feasible way to repair equipment with existing parts & tools, improving repair methods when no standard exists. • Perform mechanical maintenance and repairs on both gasoline and diesel power engines. • Repair gear boxes on heavy equipment, replacing gears, bearings, shafts, etc. • Make road calls to perform minor and major repairs on equipment or tow as necessary. • Perform major tune-ups for a wide variety of equipment. • Provide both written and oral reports to the Superintendent and Certified Mechanic. • Assist other Departments with tasks when instructed by the Superintendent. • Operate hydraulic hose crimping machine, front-end alignment, air condition reclaimer, vacuum pump, 2 & 4 post hoist, all air impact equipment, wheel balancer, fuel injection tune-up kit, tire break down machine for cars and break down machine for large truck tires. • In the absence of the Equipment Service Worker, must perform all duties for this position. • Perform basic low voltage electrical repairs. • Must have the ability to use all shop power tools & equipment, grinder, drill press, cutting torch and brake lathe. • Must be able to drive various vehicles and equipment. • When instructed, wash and clean designated city vehicles. • Work under the supervision of Certified Mechanic • Assists other employees in the performance of their duties. • In coordination with supervisors, assist to manage transit vehicle maintenance to enable the public transportation system to meet the demand during expanded service hours. Minimum Qualifications • High School Diploma or a GED. • One (1) year of specialized schooling and technical training in automotive and diesel engines. • Two (2) years of hands-on experience in automotive vehicles, light and heavy trucks as well as heavy equipment and diesel engine maintenance. • Six (6) months of hands-on and technical schooling and training in hydraulic systems and repairs or troubleshooting hydraulic systems. • One (1) year of technical training and hands-on experience in automotive electrical repairs and troubleshooting and on-board computer systems and diagnostic work. Licenses and Certificates • Must poses a valid New Mexico Commercial Driver's license. Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: • Gasoline and diesel engines, automotive A/C, computer modules, hydraulics, and brakes on both vehicles, large trucks, and equipment. Skills in: • Safe operation of small equipment; operates tire bailer, skid steer, louder, and other various hand tools such as brooms, paint brushes, saws, hammers, hoes and shovels. Ability to: • Perform functions with minimal supervision; understand and follow basic safety precautions, rules and regulations, establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationship with others. Physical Requirements • Moderately heavy work involving frequent standing, walking, balancing, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling and squatting; pushing, pulling and lifting items weighing up to 100 pounds. Working Conditions • Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services. • Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Clovis policies. • Essential duties are predominantly performed indoors with exposure to all types of weather conditions. • Employee is exposed to airborne particles, potentially toxic and/or caustic chemicals, and extreme temperatures, travel from site to site, work around traffic and heavy construction equipment. • Use of safety shoes, glasses and other equipment is required

A successful MX Field Technician understands the gimbal system, understands how all components work together including peripheral interfaces, and able to effectively troubleshoot, repair and test a failed system. • Objective is to become proficient in troubleshooting, repair, and servicing of Wescam MX-20/25 systems within 90 days. Initial MX Training will include formal 2-week training course, followed by extensive on-the-job training requirements. • Knowledge and application of troubleshooting electronics and mechanical systems, customer service skills and being a part of a motivated and diverse team. • Be part of a motivated extended team that supports various U.S. Homeland Security, Law Enforcement, and DOD Military customers by repairing mission critical Wescam sensor systems. • May be a resource to other employees in areas of expertise. Qualifications: • Must be a US Citizen • Possess and maintain a US Passport • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 3 years of prior related experience. • 4 years' experience with electronic and mechanical test equipment is required. • 4 years' experience troubleshooting and repairing problems related to product aircraft integration, electronics and mechanical systems, down to the line replaceable unit level and work with Quality & Manufacturing Engineering to take corrective actions. • 4 years prior FSR experience in both CONUS and OCONUS repair assignments and tasks, is desired. Equivalent military experience would be considered. • 4 years' experience with MS Office applications including Word and Excel is required as well as with specialized software test programs. • 4 years' experience communicating clearly (written and verbal) with technical and non-technical customers (internal/external). Preferred Additional Skills: • Active DoD Secret clearance or higher is preferred. • Special Operations, AFSOC, DOD, Airborne Law Enforcement or other similar experience is desired. • Direct experience with systems integration, software, optical, and electro-mechanical systems is preferred. Previous work experience with aircraft, tower, or aerostat-based MX-20/25 sensor systems is highly desired. • Familiarity with government contracting is preferred but not required. Working Conditions: • Considerable time standing, bending, twisting, bending, and kneeling while building a variety of assemblies. • Lifting 50 pounds occasionally and reaching for items on shelves • Working with general manufacturing hand tools, computers and electronic troubleshooting tools such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, power supplies. • Use of basic hand tools for mechanical assembly, metalworking machines and precision measuring and testing instruments. • This position will require the ability to travel overseas.
