Electrician I/II - Facilities Equipment Technician

This recruitment will be used to fill one vacancy in the Facilities Maintenance Division (Electrician Assignment) at either the Technician I or Technician II level. This recruitment will also be used to establish an eligible list to fill all possible future Electrician Technician I/II vacancies. Please be sure to attach your electrical apprenticeship certification or electrical journeyman card to your application. Applications that do not include information in full will be deemed ineligible. The first review of applications will be Monday, January 6, 2025, and weekly thereafter as needed. Facilities Equipment Technician I - Electrician ($59,590.13 - $84,314.26) A Facilities Equipment Technician I primarily performs skilled electrical work in City buildings. Employees perform a wide variety of skilled tasks in electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures. Work assignments are varied and may be received verbally or in writing. When required, the employee exercises lead supervision over semiskilled and unskilled workers. This class performs other related duties as required. Distinguishing Features: Employees in this class primarily perform mechanical equipment trades work and are licensed as and/or function as specialists (example: electricians, plumbers, etc.) in their respective mechanical trade. A high degree of competence in one or more of these mechanical equipment trades is required with at least three years of commercial journey-level experience in the trade related to the area of assignment. An employee in this class may be assigned to Facilities Management (example: City Hall, Police Headquarters, and other City-owned properties), or Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities (PRCF) (example: Hohokam Stadium, Fitch Park Training Facility, etc.). Employees in this class may progress by noncompetitive promotion to a Facilities Equipment Technician II upon meeting the specific criteria-based promotion requirements of performance and certification. Duties are performed according to general or specific instructions, and work may be inspected by a supervisor or foreman while in progress or upon completion. Responsibilities require the exercise of initiative and independent judgment in troubleshooting malfunctions and determining the proper method of repair. A Facilities Equipment Technician I is subject to stand-by duty and 24-hour call-out. Employees are required to use appropriate safety equipment and procedures in performing assignments. This class is FLSA nonexempt. Facilities Equipment Technician II - Electrician ($65,716.56 - $92,983.49) A Facilities Equipment Technician II is responsible for performing skilled electrical work in City buildings. Employees perform a wide variety of skilled tasks in electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures. In addition, this classification is responsible for independently planning and completing large maintenance projects which includes developing a scope of work, obtaining proposals, securing funding, awarding the project, following through to a successful completion, and documenting. This position may also act as a lead worker for Facilities Equipment Technician I or Trades Workers on various projects. Work assignments are varied and may be received verbally or in writing. This class performs other related duties as required. A Facilities Equipment Technician II is distinguished from a Facilities Equipment Technician I by the ability to independently plan, manage, and complete larger and more complex building maintenance projects. Additionally, the Facilities Equipment Technician II is expected to demonstrate a greater specialized knowledge and work independently by prioritizing their time, utilizing problem solving methods, and demonstrating good judgment and a high degree of tact and diplomacy. An employee in this class may be assigned to Facilities Management (example: City Hall, Police Headquarters, and other City-owned properties), or Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities (PRCF) (example: Hohokam Stadium, Fitch Park Training Facility, etc.). Employees may progress to this class by noncompetitive promotion upon meeting the specific criteria-based promotion requirements of performance and certification. Facilities Equipment Technician I - Electrical Minimum Qualifications Required. Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to successful completion of an electrical trades apprenticeship program (must provide written certification). Considerable (3 - 5 years) commercial, journey-level electrical experience. Special Requirements. Must possess a valid Class D Arizona Driver's License by hire or promotion date. Must possess an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) refrigeration certification card (by assignment). Due to the required access to all City buildings for this position, an individual receiving a conditional offer of employment from the City of Mesa must pass a background investigation through the City of Mesa Police Department, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, and Federal Bureau of Investigation prior to commencing employment with the City of Mesa to allow escorted access to Police facilities (Facilities Management assignment). Substance Abuse Testing. Due to the safety and/or security sensitive nature of this classification, individuals shall be subject to pre-employment or pre-placement alcohol, drug and/or controlled substance testing as outlined in City policy and procedures (by assignment). Preferred/Desirable Qualifications. Good (1 - 3 years) experience working with computers and Energy Management Systems are highly desirable. Facilities Equipment Technician II - Electrical Minimum Qualifications Required. Considerable (3 - 5 years) commercial journey-level electrical experience. Successful completion of a four-year electrical apprenticeship program (must provide written certification); OR state-issued journeyman electrician card (must provide proof); OR provide documentation of ten years of journey-level electrical work experience. Special Requirements. Must possess a valid Class D Arizona Driver's License by hire or promotion date. Electrician J1

Under the general direction of the Project Foreman, the incumbents will perform physical labor on assigned project / construction sites. The incumbent must be an experienced, self-motivated, capable journeyman electrician, motivated to complete assigned duties with minimal supervision. The incumbent will perform activities such as excavating, raceway installations, grounding, terminating, instrumentation installation, switchgear installation, startup and testing, and train the upcoming apprentices. Having a journeyman certificate from the ABA or IECA is a must. Incumbents must also be willing to work in a variety of outdoor weather conditions that is normal for the geographical area they are assigned. Primary Job Duties include but may not be limited to: • Responsible for attendance, punctuality, and acceptable performance are critically important. • Must have previous industrial or commercial electrical experience. • Responsible to demonstrate competency and pass RE electrical exam. • May be required to safely drive a company vehicle to /or from a job site; on a job site, obeying all local, state and federal traffic laws. • Responsible for communicating effectively with project foreman and other Rural employees on the job site. • Responsible to adhere to all safety protocols and wear all required PPE equipment. provided by the Company while on the job. • May be responsible to read / interpret project plans / details and interpret survey markings, comply with blue-stake requirements as needed. • Responsible for accepting and following direction from the Project Foreman or other designated operations management working and be willing to work as part of a production team to complete the project within budget and within defined schedule on the project. • Responsible to work collaboratively with other on the project to meet the project plan specifications and schedules. • Responsible for completing any other reasonable duties as assigned by the project foreman or management. • Responsible to learn how to thread and bend conduit (field test will be required) • Responsible to learn how to read project plans / blueprints (field test will be required). • Responsible to know how to terminate transformers, motors, lighting panels • Responsible knowing how to use / operate scissor lift, boom lift, forklift (field test will be required) and other relevant tools before using on the job. You may never operate equipment, machinery or tools you do not know how to use properly. You are responsible to know if certain tools, machinery or equipment require user certification before using such tools. As such, the incumbent should act and carry out their assigned job duties as if in a Safety-First Environment and exercise great caution when working on a construction (project) site.
