Carpenter Co. has immediate openings for Material Handlers/Wrappers on 1st shift at our Mount Airy, NC manufacturing plant. This position is responsible for assembling foam parts, assisting the machine operator with materials for the machines and maintaining the department/area in clean condition free of unnecessary material and/or debris in our Bedding department. The successful candidate will be able to communicate with department supervisors, department operators, and production personnel on a daily basis, and maintain a well-organized work area that is safely stacked and properly labeled to achieve the necessary results to meet production and shipping schedules. Your additional responsibilities as a Wrapper will include: • Perform quality check process by measuring material and ensuring that it matches the specification on each label • Perimeter edge foam manufacturing and packaging • Operate bale machine • Wrap, seal, and label foam according to customer specifications and customer quantities • Print stock and shipping labels or enter production figures into SAP • Help perform routine simple maintenance on machinery • Use air blowgun for housekeeping purposes • Operate hot glue machine to seal packaging material • Ensure work area is clean and orderly by disposing of departmental waste Skills and requirements • High school education or GED preferred. • 1+ years of prior experience in a manufacturing environment. • On the job training is provided. • Must have basic reading, writing and math skills. • Must have some computer experience and be able to use a computer in day-to-day operations. • Must be able to read and interpret tape measure. • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions. • Must be able to work with little or no supervision. • Ability to lift and maneuver up to 50 lbs. • Ability to work in a continuous fast- paced environment with attention to detail. • Must be able to work flexible hours, weekends, holidays and call-in with little notice.
