Facilities Journeyman (Carpenter)

Description The City of Roanoke is seeking a Carpenter to perform work in mechanical or structural repair and maintenance of facilities and equipment. Works as a rough carpenter; and performs chipping and painting. Cleans, services, repairs and replaces roofs, windows, doors, siding, caulking various surfaces, flashing and gutters on City of Roanoke owned buildings. Will develop database to catalog and maintain information on all City of Roanoke roofs, buildings and structures in order to develop field maintenance schedules and replacement needs. Discuss job requirements and receives detailed instructions from supervisor/foreman. Studies plans, drawings, specifications, and work orders to determine work requirement and sequence of repairs and/or installations. May be required to operate backhoe/skid steer, training will be provided if needed. Work as rough/finish carpenter performing such duties as resurfacing concrete walkways (floor polishing) in city buildings, maintenance of facilities equipment, basic carpentry, wood and metal stud framing, removal/installation of ceiling systems, carpet, VCT tile, ceramic tile, wallboard, wall trim, doors, windows, concrete, brick/block laying, sandblasting, chipping, painting and demolition of structures.
