Machine Design Mechanical Engineer

Title: Machine Design Mechanical Engineer Level 2 Classification: Exempt/Full Time Reports to: Engineering Supervisor Location: Engineering Technology Corporation (Salt Lake City, UT) Date: 7/3/25 Job Summary: Design and develop mechanical equipment that satisfies requirements regarding process performance, safety, quality, and applicable standards such as CE, etc. Work under the direction of the Engineering Supervisor to meet budgetary goals and delivery schedules with a focus on project management. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: • Design and modify new or existing mechanical designs to meet design requirements • Create and manage 3D models and technical drawings of parts and assemblies • Research components, services, and processes to determine the best fit for a given application • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts including design review, scrum, and change order processes • Responsible for machine safety. Make sure that applicable standards are followed and that electromechanical systems are designed in a manner that is generally safe to operators • Perform and document sizing calculations for various mechanical components including structures, drive systems, motion systems, etc. • Design experiments, conduct, collect and analyze data and communicate results to the team as required during new process development stages • Travel to customer sites for installation, training and debugging on an as-needed basis Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or allied field) • 3 - 5 years experience with machine design and fabrication techniques • 3 - 5 years experience in a manufacturing / machining / production setting • 3 years solid modeling experience (preferably SolidWorks) • 1 year experience with composites manufacturing processes, equipment and machinery • Must have solid problem solving and communication skills (oral and written) • Must be able to conceptualize solutions to complicated problems • Must have thorough knowledge of drafting techniques, procedures and guidelines. Knowledge in GD&T a plus. • Must have experience with lean manufacturing techniques as related to machine tool design • Must have experience with Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Manufacture (DFM) • Experience with or formal training with concurrent engineering or phased development process • Experience designing pneumatic systems and schematics • Experience with FEA structural analysis software such as Solidworks Simulation • Experience with product data management systems, check in/ check out, such as Solidworks PDM Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Fillauer Motion Control, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Assembler to assemble and test mechanical assemblies used to produce a variety of upper extremity medical products such as electro-mechanical hands, wrist, elbows, and lower extremity, hydraulic feet. This position may also be responsible for the operation of a plastic injection molding machine. Your Impact: • Assembles products using instructions, bills of materials and engineering drawings • Interprets technical documents, such as diagrams, schematics, or other verbal or written instructions • Ensures quality standards are met • Verifies specifications by measuring completed component • Identifies any defective items and handles according to established procedures • Resolves assembly problems by communicating with peers or supervisors • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with company standards • Uses hand tools, power tools, custom fixtures, drill presses, arbor presses, ovens, heat guns and other light duty equipment Minimum Qualifications: • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. • Experience working in a mechanical manufacturing environment is an asset. • Must have knowledge of mechanical assembly processes and techniques. • Use of micrometers, test indicators and measurement calipers. • Must have a willingness to learn and be cross-trained into areas of high complexity. • Ability to read and comprehend mechanical procedures, drawings is required. • Must have, or be eligible to obtain, a valid driver’s license and driving record within the standards outlined within Hanger’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures.
