Entry Level Mechanical Engineer

About the position Idaho National Laboratory is seeking an Entry Level Mechanical Engineer to join our Mechanical Design and Reliability Engineering department. This position is based at our Materials and Fuels Complex, where we operate on a 4x10 schedule, allowing for every Friday off. As a leading national laboratory for the Department of Energy's Nuclear Energy (DOE-NE) sector, INL plays a pivotal role in advancing nuclear research, development, and demonstration capabilities necessary for the deployment of nuclear innovations. The Materials and Fuels Complex is uniquely equipped with personnel, facilities, and infrastructure to conduct comprehensive research and development of nuclear fuels, encompassing everything from fuel development and fabrication to post-irradiation analysis. In this role, you will apply engineering principles to solve mechanical problems related to the dynamics of heat, gas, air, fluids, and solid materials. Your responsibilities will include decomposing project goals into defined design requirements, utilizing best practices in design methodologies, and developing physics-based mathematical models to support and verify designs. You will maintain a thorough understanding of applicable codes and standards, document designs to ensure compliance, and establish testing and quality requirements to uphold technical features critical to your responsibilities. Engineer - Mechanical

Engineer - Mechanical Full Time Idaho Falls, ID, US Position Purpose: Provide engineering support to the Civil/Structural & Analysis organization in a variety of projects and functions. Integrate safety into all aspects of engineering duties and personal accountability in the workplace. Duties include but are not limited to: • Perform analysis, hand calculations, modeling and simulation of structural and mechanical systems and components. • Perform linear and nonlinear, static and dynamic, analysis of such factors as stress, force, vibration, and material plasticity. Compare results to the provisions of governing codes, standards, and orders. • Perform seismic (and other natural phenomenon) analysis of structures and components of varying complexity. • Provide support to various projects requiring design and analysis of steel, aluminum. • Provide support to design teams in development of design requirements, alternative analysis, equipment selection and sizing, vendor equipment summaries and evaluations, and drawings. • Develop specifications, drawings, supporting analysis and calculations and Engineering Design Files. • Perform technical checking of Engineering Design Files and drawings for a variety of projects. • Provide support to Safety Analysis through analysis of accidents and their potential consequences. • Contribute to and develop cost estimates. • Document analyses with accurate and concise reports. Minimum Qualification Requirements (Education/Experience): • U.S. citizen • Work a 4X10 schedule, based out the Sawtelle Street Facility in Idaho Falls and be able to perform site visits as required. • Accredited four (4) year degree in civil/structural or mechanical engineering and 8 years of position-related experience. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. • Apply engineering principles, theories, and concepts and relevant technical knowledge necessary to complete work. • Knowledge of and ability to apply local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines as required. • Communicate effectively with a design team, management, coworkers, and clients. • Produce written reports, analyses, and other deliverables. • Complete work on schedule, participate in reviews, and provide technical checks and peer reviews. • Have experience and be conversant in finite element analysis software. • Proficient in MS Word and MathCad. Special Requirements/Training (Optional): Prefer experience using complex structural/stress (over fluids) analysis, and Abaqus finite element analysis. Licensed professional engineer in the State of Idaho in applicable engineering field is preferred.
