Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Purpose: Lead engineer and engineering team/project leader for new product development. Conceptualize, develop, verify, and help validate new product designs and engineering solutions to meet user needs. Resourceful and collaborative in a cross functional team environment. Work closely with Project Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Sustaining Engineering teams for collective success. A high degree of creativity and self-direction is expected. Job Responsibilities include, but not limited to: • Engineering team leader for New Product Development projects • Performs duties in compliance with GCX processes, with particular emphasis on Design Controls, Risk Management, and Design Change procedures. • Mentor and train junior Engineers. May direct their work on projects. • Create new product designs, prototypes, proposals, concepts, feasibility, cost studies, engineering, test plans, documentation, verification, and validation. • Create Product Specifications from Requirements working closely with Marketing, Product Management, and Customers. • Seek creative and innovative solutions. • Manage complex tasks and support Project Management. • Prepare and manage segments of project schedules, budgets, and product costs. • Ensure Engineering project is kept within scope, time, and cost. Keep internal and external customers informed of status. • Prepare detailed mechanical engineering CAD models and documentation including drawings, assembly instructions, BoMs, etc., with adherence to standards. • Engineering analyses including strength, stiffness, balance stability, and material selection. • Tolerance analyses and design for assembly. • Seek and respond to DFM and DFQ inputs from supply chain and internal functions; Incorporate into design requirements. • Define test plans and execute product testing for engineering confidence and design verification. • Collaborate with customers, including development and management of technical product requirements and schedules. • Present & participate in technical design reviews. • Problem solving, failure analysis, and root cause analyses. • Support customer feedback investigations. • Provide product related technical support to the organization. • Support Sustaining Engineering related to NPI and product lifecycle changes / continuous improvement. Support & perform design changes. • Recommend and participate in functional training to advance technical capabilities and stays current with engineering and manufacturing methods. • Travel typically includes both domestic and international visits to GCX manufacturing facilities, suppliers, and customer sites. While generally occurring on a quarterly basis, travel frequency may vary depending on project requirements. • Performs other related duties and assignments as required.

Position Responsibilities • Assist in the design of mechanical components and systems, including airframes, payload enclosures, ground equipment, launch systems, and electro-mechanical assemblies • Create and modify 3D CAD models and assemblies using SolidWorks • Support simulation and analysis tasks using tools like SolidWorks Simulation or ANSYS • Participate in prototype fabrication, assembly, and testing using in-house tools and rapid prototyping methods (e.g., 3D printing) • Help generate technical drawings and bills of materials in accordance with industry drafting standards • Collaborate with engineers to support design reviews, testing activities, and integration of mechanical systems • Contribute to documentation and reporting of design progress and test results • Learn and assist in configuration control and engineering change processes • Perform other tasks as assigned to support ongoing development efforts Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience) • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field • Basic experience with 3D CAD software (preferably SolidWorks) • Familiarity with mechanical components such as machined parts, sheet metal, plastic parts, or composite materials • Exposure to hands-on prototyping, lab testing, or mechanical assembly through academic or personal projects • Strong communication and organizational skills • Eagerness to learn and contribute in a fast-paced, collaborative environment Preferred Qualifications & Competencies • Familiarity with SolidWorks EPDM or other Product Data Management (PDM) systems • Exposure to ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards and engineering drawing practices • Interest or experience in designing test fixtures or tooling • Basic understanding of structural dynamics or thermodynamics in mechanical design • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and attention to detail • Self-motivated, proactive, and eager to take initiative • Team player who values collaboration and continuous improvement Physical Demands • Ability to work in an office and light R&D lab environment (Constant) • Required to sit or stand for extended periods; use hands and fingers to operate a computer or tools (Frequent) ITAR Requirement: This position requires access to information that is subject to compliance with the International Traffic Arms Regulations ("ITAR") and/or the Export Administration Regulations ("EAR"). Quality Engineer – Medical Devices (Contract-to-Hire, On-Site) Location: Petaluma, CA Company: Kelly Engineering client – Medical Device Manufacturer Summary: Seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to lead and implement GMP-regulated quality systems in a rapidly growing medical device environment. Ideal applicants will blend deep validation, risk management, and compliance skills with the communication and leadership necessary to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative setting.
