Mechanical Technician - Plumbing (202530)

Location: North Platte Application Deadline: 5/13/25 Position: The primary responsibility of this position will be to maintain plumbing systems, but other skills, such as carpentry or equipment repair, are of high value. This requires both hands-on work and the ability to help manage a small network of contractors and suppliers. If you have a plumbing background and enjoy working with a team, this career may be for you. The North Platte Physical Resources Department manages facilities operations with our subdepartments Maintenance and Custodial. We are a team of approximately 20 people who work together with suppliers and other contractors to support the physical operations. Daily activities in our department include facilitating building repairs, groundskeeping, vehicle maintenance, fleet management, implementing facilities improvements, and receiving shipments. Our team provides essential support to all departments, faculty, and students. About us: Mid-Plains Community College, a legislatively designated 18-county service area in West-Central Nebraska, is a comprehensive, open access, public, two-year community college system that offers associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates. Basic computer knowledge, good communications skills, and a valid driver's license are required. Pipe fitters and journeyman plumbing license preferred. The candidate should be able and willing to learn additional skills on the job and be cross-functional. The ability to communicate in multiple languages is helpful. Key Responsibilities: • Perform preventative maintenance procedures on assigned equipment to minimize downtime and increase equipment longevity. • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair equipment breakdowns in a safe, efficient, and timely manner. • Collaborate with other departments when major equipment failures occur, ensuring minimal disruption to plant operations. • Maintain detailed records of repairs, maintenance tasks, and parts used, ensuring accurate reporting for compliance and tracking purposes. • Comply with all safety protocols, ensuring work is performed safely to protect yourself, your team, and company assets. • Assist in maintaining a clean and safe work environment. • Communicate effectively with maintenance supervisors and lead mechanics to address issues promptly.
