Mechanical Engineering Technician

Job Description: Contributor in the design and development of automated plasma cutting systems. Priority focus on development of plasma consumables and next generation of automated plasma torch and cutting processes. Key contributor to complete plasma cutting system design including the integration of system electronics, plasma cutting process control, plasma torch and consumable design, and plasma cutting CNC machine control. Interface with and trouble shoot complex Electro-mechanical systems. Key Duties & Responsibilities: • Technical contributor for design and development of complex automated Plasma cutting systems • These systems include plasma torches, plasma consumables, plasma cutting gas control, cutting machine integration, inverter power supply integration, and plasma cutting process development. • Development of product documentation including technical specifications, concepts to meet those specifications, detailed designs of each system, generation of cost estimate models, and input for development schedules. • Leading the development of test processes, analysis of results, and appraisal of integrity of mechanical product designs. • Presentation of test and/or analysis results and design ideas both orally and written • Assisting in construction of prototypes. • Collaborate with global engineering teams on new product designs • Provide end-users with support through product applications and demonstrations • Provide field service engineers with support on product applications, demonstrations, product opportunities and processes • Assist end users with process applications analysis • Assists in the development of technical training programs and materials • Provide customers with support on product applications • Respond to technical inquiries from internal company personnel • Project a positive, professional image as a Company representative Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Required: • Minimum of 5 years' experience in industrial equipment design. • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or an Associate's degree in Electrical/Mechanical Technology. • Strong technical and analytical problem-solving skills. • Ability to quickly learn and apply knowledge of plasma cutting processes. • Proficiency in design for manufacturing principles and product data management. • Solid computer literacy and familiarity with engineering software tools. • Experience with SolidWorks CAD modeling and industrial product development. Preferred: • Working knowledge of plasma physics and fluid dynamics. • Experience with computational fluid dynamics (CFD). • Familiarity with statistical design of experiments (DOE). • Understanding of finite element analysis (FEA) for mechanical stress and heat transfer. • Background in scientific experimentation and mechanical integrity testing. This role requires a sharp eye for detail, strong technical skills, and the ability to interpret engineering drawings accurately. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, meticulous, and motivated to contribute to the production of mission-critical optics.Supervisory Responsibilities:None.Responsibilities: • Perform mechanical inspections of manufactured components and assemblies using precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.). • Conduct visual inspections of manufactured components and finished products using microscopes and other visual tools. • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine inspection requirements and acceptance criteria. • Identify, document, and classify dimensional deviations and visual defects accurately and efficiently. • Collaborate with production teams to address quality issues, implement corrective actions, and ensure compliance with quality standards. • Maintain detailed inspection records, reports, and non-conformance documentation. • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of quality control procedures and processes. • Adhere to all safety protocols and practices while performing inspection duties. Required Skills: • Strong attention to detail with excellent visual acuity and fine motor skills. • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications accurately. • Proficiency with precision measurement tools and inspection equipment. • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment. • Basic computer skills and experience maintaining inspection documentation. • Knowledge of quality control principles and practices preferred. Qualifications (Education and Experience):High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required. Previous experience in quality inspection (mechanical or visual) preferred.Physical Requirements: • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. • Adequate or corrected vision required to inspect optical components using microscopes and inspection tools. • Strong fine motor skills to perform intricate inspection tasks. Overview: Assemblers use a variety of hand & power tools, fixtures, work instructions and test equipment. Perform a series of operations to correctly assemble/test automotive repair equipment. The Assembler must have Mechanical Aptitude meaning the ability to figure out how objects work and move, alone and in relation to other objects. Monday-Friday 7am-3:30pm.
