Laborer (Earthwork Construction)

Summary: This position is responsible for tasks involving physical labor at construction sites and assisting other workers. Employees may operate hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments. They may also clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, and clean up rubble other waste materials. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards • Load, unload, or identify building materials, machinery, or tools while distributing them to the appropriate locations • Control traffic passing near, in, or around work zones with appropriate training provided • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, or adjustment of machinery, equipment, or materials with appropriate training provided • Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, or compact and level earth using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, or rakes • May be required to enter trenches and/or confined spaces after receiving proper training • Understand and comply with safety considerations as set herein and as directed by the Foreman/Supervisor Candidates that accept an offer of employment are required to undergo and successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination. This exam is essential to ensure that all potential employees meet the necessary health and fitness standards for the role. The examination includes a series of tests and evaluations conducted by a certified medical professional to assess overall physical health, identify any potential medical conditions that could interfere with job performance, and verify that the candidate is capable of safely performing the essential duties of the position. POSITION PURPOSE: The Construction Road Technician performs service and repairs on construction and agriculture equipment at customer sites to ensure equipment runs according to manufacturer’s specifications. Ensures all Briggs Earth & Ag standards are adhered to and executed consistent with company direction. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 1. Diagnose and repair equipment, to include diesel engines, electric motors, transmissions, drive axles, differentials, hydraulic systems, brake systems, steering systems, electrical systems, lifting systems, etc. 2. Rebuild and/or repair all components and systems in construction and agriculture equipment and other related equipment 3. Per company safety guidelines, properly block, lock out tag out, and disassemble equipment as needed to facilitate major component removal and repair 4. Perform routine and operational maintenance to ensure that equipment continues to run according to manufacturer’s specifications 5. Perform diagnostic troubleshooting and failure analysis on all components and systems 6. Perform equipment inspections to identify potential problems and safety concerns 7. Heavy equipment knowledge repairs along with Cummings, Perkins, Yanmar, and Kohler engines 8. Record maintenance, repair work, parts used on job and warranty paperwork in a timely manner back to the branch 9. Complete basic and advanced technical training as assigned weekly and monthly 10. Maintain parts and supplies on company vehicles at all times as needed 11. Maintain company vehicle cleanliness and ensure vehicle is in safe operating condition; complete vehicle checklist as required 12. Maintain a culture of safety & participate in all safety meetings 13. Perform other related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Basic Knowledge & Competencies: • Excellent customer service skills • Thorough knowledge of heavy equipment & operations that apply to the branch • Excellent mechanical aptitude, technical knowledge and problem solving skills • Basic computer aptitude • Good verbal and written communication skills Previous Experience/Education: • High school diploma or GED equivalent required • Mechanical or trade school certificate preferred • 3+ years’ experience in heavy line equipment repair or related industry preferred • Heavy line equipment and warranty repair knowledge preferred • Ability to read precision instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges, etc. • Valid driver’s license required PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS • Standing, walking, lifting, twisting and bending on a frequent basis • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds • 100% travel to customer sites • Must furnish own tools for performing needed repairs to equipment • OFFERING SIGN ON BONUSES*
