This role requires a high level of technical expertise in setting up and operating advanced CNC equipment to produce complex, high-precision components for mission-critical applications. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with mill-turn CNC machines (e.g., Nakamura, Doosan, Mazak Integrex, DMG MORI NT/NX series, Okuma Multus) and Swiss screw machines, and will be capable of working independently to ensure quality, efficiency, and repeatability in a fast-paced production environment. Responsibilities • Set up and operate mill-turn CNC machines and Swiss screw machines to produce precision components to tight tolerances. • Interpret blueprints, CAD models, and setup sheets to ensure accurate machining and part conformance. • Select and install appropriate tooling, fixtures, and machine offsets for each job. • Perform first-article inspections and make necessary adjustments to ensure compliance with specifications. • Troubleshoot setup and machining issues and implement corrective actions independently. • Optimize machining processes for cycle time, tool life, and part quality. Collaborate with programmers and engineers to refine machining strategies and resolve technical challenges. • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. • Document setup procedures and best practices for repeatability and knowledge sharing. • Train and mentor junior machinists and setup personnel as needed. • Perform routine machine maintenance and proactively report issues. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean and Kaizen activities. • Other duties as assigned. Qualifications • High School diploma or GED required; technical/vocational training preferred. • Minimum of 7 years of CNC machining experience, with at least 3 years in a setup role on mill-turn and/or Swiss screw machines. • Strong knowledge of CNC machine operation, tooling, and setup techniques. Proficient in reading and interpreting complex blueprints and GD&T. • Solid understanding of machining principles, speeds and feeds, and material properties. • Skilled in using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, indicators, CMMs). • Familiarity with CAM software (e.g., MasterCam) and ability to collaborate with programmers. • Strong math skills, including geometry and trigonometry. • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. • Ability to work independently and take ownership of quality and productivity. Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset. • Comfortable working in a high-mix, low-volume production environment. • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices.
