Amentum is currently searching for a Maintenance Machinist to work at FRC ASE El Centro, CA. Job Summary: The Maintenance Machinist produces replacement parts and new parts in making repairs of metal parts of mechanical equipment. Work involves most of the following: interpreting written instructions and specifications, planning and laying out of work, using a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments, setting up and operating standard machine tools. This incumbent is responsible for the shaping of metal parts to close tolerances, making standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speed of machining; knowledge of the properties of the common metals, selecting standard materials, parts and equipment required for this work. Fitting and assembling parts into mechanical equipment. Practices good housekeeping, tool control, Foreign Object Damage prevention, and safety at all times. Performs other duties as assigned. Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or fee; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is regularly exposed to hot and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme HOT; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, or may include unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues. Minimum Requirements: • High school diploma or GED. • Valid driver’s license. • Experience operating software and web based programs. • A good working knowledge of the governing supply systems, programs, policies and work method manuals. • Must be able to pass and maintain a US Government security background check • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English. • Ability to independently operate with minimal supervision. • 2 years experience reading and interpreting blue prints, sketches and manufacturing files to produce precision parts and components. • Experience operating lathes, mills, drilling machines, grinders and milling machines. • Ability to use and read calipers and micrometers Preferred Qualifications: • Microsoft Office experience. • Basic knowledge of maintenance repairs on a variety of equipment. • Experience at interpreting written instructions and specifications. • Experience in a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments. • Experience Conventional Milling Machine.
