Job Title: Machinist Job Description As a machinist, you will be responsible for machining on mill, lathe, or mill turn machines to manufacture parts for the aerospace and defense industry. Responsibilities • Read and interpret blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, and related technical data to determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings, and machining methods and sequences. • Develop and review setup sheets and specifications to determine setup procedures, machining sequences, and dimensions of finished work pieces. • Attach fixtures to machines, position, and secure work pieces in fixtures according to setup instructions. • Assemble cutting tools in tool holders and position tool holders in machine spindles or insert cutting tools in specified machine magazines. • Download part programs from the machine shop program storage computer to machine controls based on production schedules. • Manipulate controls and enter commands to index cutting tools to specified set points and start machines. • Observe and listen to machine operations to detect malfunctions such as worn or damaged cutting tools. • Suggest program, machining, and fixture changes to improve quality and production requirements. • Change cutting tools and location of work pieces during the machining process as specified in setup instructions. • Measure work pieces for conformance and report discrepancies to supervisors or lead personnel. • Adjust machine feed and speed and change cutters to machine parts according to specifications when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctions. • Machine materials other than metal such as composites and plastics. • Feed or remove metal, plastic, or other stock and material from machines. • Deburr and clean parts as required. • Clean machines, tooling, and parts. • Perform other duties as assigned. Essential Skills • Proficiency in Lathe, Mill, CNC Machining, CNC Setup, CNC Program Editing, CNC Mill, CNC Lathe, CNC Mill Turn. • Experience with Haas, Mazak, Mastercam, and Okuma machines. • Ability to read and interpret technical data and blueprints. • Strong problem-solving skills to suggest improvements in programs and machining processes. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience in aerospace manufacturing is a plus. • Ability to machine materials other than metal, such as composites and plastics.
