Job Title: Machinist Location: Las Vegas, NV Department: Fabrication Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly Reports To: CNC Machine Shop Supervisor Job Summary As a Machinist with SGPSShowRig, you’ll play a key role in the precision fabrication of components used in our custom staging, automation, and rigging systems. This position combines manual machining skills with CNC operation and setup expertise, working primarily with aluminum and steel. You’ll be part of a highly skilled team that takes projects from concept to showtime—producing quality parts that meet exacting tolerances and performance standards for the live entertainment industry. Essential Responsibilities Machine Setup and Operation: • Set up, program, and operate both manual mills/lathes and CNC machining centers to produce precision metal components according to engineering drawings and project specifications. • Ability to work independently. Tool and Material Selection: • Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and materials (primarily aluminum and steel) to achieve desired finishes and tolerances. Blueprint Interpretation: • Read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and technical specifications to determine machining operations, dimensions, and tolerances. Precision Measurement: • Use calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring instruments to verify quality and accuracy of machined parts. Program Input and Adjustments: • Enter or modify CNC programs (G/M code) to optimize cutting speeds, feeds, and tool paths; adjust offsets as needed during production. Maintenance and Troubleshooting: • Perform routine maintenance on machines; troubleshoot mechanical or program errors to maintain consistent output. Quality and Safety: • Conduct quality inspections, maintain documentation, and adhere to all SGPS/ShowRig safety and housekeeping standards. Collaboration: • Work closely with engineers, fabricators, and production teams to meet deadlines and resolve design or machining challenges. Continuous Improvement: • Suggest and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and maintain highquality output. Qualifications • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Machinist or CNC Operator in a manufacturing, fabrication, or jobshop environment. • Handson experience operating manual mills, lathes, drill presses, and grinders. • Proven proficiency in CNC machine setup, operation, and minor programming (Haas, Fanuc, or similar controls preferred). • Experience machining aluminum and steel materials to close tolerances. • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and GD&T specifications. • Strong understanding of cutting speeds, feeds, tooling geometry, and part fixturing. • Familiarity with basic CAD/CAM software a plus. • Excellent attention to detail, problemsolving, and communication skills. • Ability to work independently and with other members of the CNC team. • Commitment to safety and quality workmanship. Physical Requirements • Ability to stand, bend, and walk for extended periods throughout the workday. • Frequently required to lift, move, or position materials and components weighing up to 50 lbs (occasionally up to 75 lbs with assistance). • Ability to work OT, shifts can move as needed depending on the projects and weekends happen. • Manual dexterity to handle precision tools and materials. • Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment with noise, dust, and fluctuating temperatures. • Must wear required PPE including safety glasses, steeltoe shoes, and hearing protection as necessary. Work Environment This position is performed primarily in a machine shop and fabrication setting within our Las Vegas facility. Collaboration with fabrication, engineering, and staging departments is frequent, and occasional overtime may be required based on project schedules. This position will typically work Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm; however, overtime may be required.
