Electrical Maintenance Mechanic

Inspects, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs mechanical systems, including fixed and rotating equipment, engines, pumps, generators, compressors, piping, valves, vessels. Identifies and implements reliability, integrity, economic, carbon reduction, and safety improvements for above systems. Performs work of medium complexity and may assist on projects. Receives close supervision only on non-routine and critical aspects of work. General knowledge of Chevron policies and processes. The Electrical Maintenance Mechanic provides knowledge and expertise in fixed equipment including rotating equipment, engines, pumps, piping, valves and vessels, including inspection, troubleshooting and repair. Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to • Electrical maintenance mechanics are responsible for the proper performance of work within reasonable time limits and in accordance with established procedures, regulations, safe practices, and all applicable codes. • Works in Process Plant and Electric Shop environments. • Performs troubleshooting, preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities. • Disassembles, removes, assembles, and installs equipment as required. • Maintains and repairs control systems and equipment, which can include both analog and digital devices. • Maintains and repairs power systems, and works on equipment such as VFD’s, photo eyes, lighting, motors, transformers, reactors, relays, and draw-out breakers/starters. • Ability to utilize hand, power, and precision tools safely and effectively. Makes necessary craft computations and uses a computer. • Ability to read blueprint drawings, schematic, logic, and one-line diagrams. • Must be able to take initiative and work independently. Has the ability to plan and organize own work.  • Responsible for estimating labor and materials and for the safe and economic use of resources. • Looks for and acts on opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce costs.  • Ability to display a comprehensive understanding of refinery policies and procedures. • Ability to grasp complex issues and apply good problem-solving skills to develop recommendations/solutions. • Build positive working relationships with operators and other crafts, both internally and externally to Chevron. Required Qualifications • High School Diploma or Equivalent. • Valid Driver’s License. • 1+ years working as a Journey-Level Electrician or Lineman.   This job is a Safety Sensitive Position and is subject to Random Drug/Alcohol testing in addition to pre-employment background checks.   Preferred Qualifications • Refining or petrochemical experience. • Protective relay certification. • Power Circuit Breaker certification. • Electrical Technology certification. • Lineman experience • Automated Packaging Equipment experience Relocations Options: • Relocation will not be considered. Job Description 1. Reads and understands blueprints. 2. Assists in modifying or planning new installations to minimize waste of materials and provide access for future maintenance. 3. Prepares sketches showing the location of wiring and equipment or follows diagrams or blueprints ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before the completion of future ceilings, and floorings. 4. Works around hazardous wiring. 5. Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit using rulers, hand tools, power tools. 6. Splices wires using hand tools, soldering equipment, tape or terminal gaps. 7. Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment using hand tools. 8. Installs control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels. 9. Unwinds and pulls cable. 10. Connects power cable to equipment using hand tools. 11. Tests the installed equipment for safety and electrical compatibility. 12. Disassembles defective electrical equipment. 13. May assist in lifting, positioning, and securing of materials and work pieces during installation. 14. Cleans and performs minor maintenance activities on tools and equipment. 15. Maintains a clean and safe work environment. 16. Must be able to safely traverse uneven terrain with tools and building materials. 17. Must be able to climb vertical ladders and work above ground as necessary. 18. Performs a variety of tasks involving safe dexterous use of hand tools. 19. Safely operates power tools and equipment. 20. Typically requires a minimum of 48 months of industrial construction experience.

Electrician 1st Class Location: Port Arthur Dry Dock Essential Duties and Responsibilities: This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned. • Perform electrical repair and maintenance such as assemble, install, test, or maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, or fixtures for ships, barges, equipment and facilities. May repair and install telephone systems. • Troubleshoot and repair electrical components, systems, and equipment. • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. • Advise supervision and/or Safety Department on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous. • Determine the appropriate method and required equipment required for proper electrical repair. • May be required to install conduits, run wire, and terminating. • Place conduit, pipes, or tubing, inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes. • May train workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures when appropriate. • Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes. • Able to operate shipboard switchgear. • May assist during emergencies by operating floodlights or generators, placing flares, or driving needed vehicles. Required Education & Experience: • A minimum of a High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred. • Experience/knowledge of electrical circuitry. • Industrial and/or marine Electrical experience preferred. • 1st Class: 3-5 years • 2nd Class: 1-3 years • Maintain current electrician's license to meet governmental regulations (if applicable). Working Conditions: • Some climbing (100 feet) and lifting (50 lbs.) involved. • Traverse gangways and scaffolding at varying heights while wearing fall prevention equipment. • Working with hot and sometimes hazardous materials. • Aboard ships, both on and offshore as well as confined spaces. • Must be able to stand and operate equipment for up to four continuous hours. • The work requires long periods of sitting in awkward positions, standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over, crouching, and climbing up and over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge and boat structural members.
